Job Description
Position Overview & Responsibilities
- Individualized guidance from faculty mentors through daily interactions and weekly meetings
- Participation in graduate-level workshops and seminars focused on skill building and career development
- Additional mentoring from senior graduate students and postdoctoral scientists on navigating graduate school and scientific careers
- Opportunities to present research at local and national meetings as well as contribute to peer-reviewed publications
- Prepare media and maintain laboratory stocks of solutions and reagents
- Conduct experiments under the guidance of a senior scientist
- Act as the primary contact/mentor for high school students performing research projects
- Use molecular genetics techniques live cell imaging and protein purification in research experiments
- Work on projects using yeast or mammalian tissue culture cells to explore chromosome segregation during meiosis and mitosis
- Gain hands-on experience in experimental design lab techniques and data analysis
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS degree in biological sciences physics chemistry or equivalent hands-on laboratory experience
- Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working as part of a supportive collaborative team
- Eagerness to learn new techniques and the ability to work independently once trained
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with R python and computational skills would be desirable but not required
Work Hours
- Typically Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM.
