Postbaccalaureate Research Scholar Dawson Lab

Position Overview & Responsibilities

• Individualized guidance from faculty mentors through daily interactions and weekly meetings
• Participation in graduate-level workshops and seminars focused on skill building and career development
• Additional mentoring from senior graduate students and postdoctoral scientists on navigating graduate school and scientific careers
• Opportunities to present research at local and national meetings as well as contribute to peer-reviewed publications

• Prepare media and maintain laboratory stocks of solutions and reagents
• Conduct experiments under the guidance of a senior scientist
• Act as the primary contact/mentor for high school students performing research projects
• Use molecular genetics techniques live cell imaging and protein purification in research experiments
• Work on projects using yeast or mammalian tissue culture cells to explore chromosome segregation during meiosis and mitosis
• Gain hands-on experience in experimental design lab techniques and data analysis

Minimum Requirements

• BA/BS degree in biological sciences physics chemistry or equivalent hands-on laboratory experience
• Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working as part of a supportive collaborative team
• Eagerness to learn new techniques and the ability to work independently once trained

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with R python and computational skills would be desirable but not required

Work Hours

• Typically Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM.
