Job Title: School Health Aide/Assistant
Reports to:School Nurse and/or Principal
Job Summary:
The School Health Aide supports the school nurse and school administration in promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of students. This role involves providing basic first aid assisting with medication administration under supervision maintaining health records and supporting health-related programs within the school. The Health Aide ensures that students health needs are addressed promptly to promote a safe and supportive learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide basic first aid and care to students and staff with illness or injury.
Assist the school nurse with medication administration treatments and medical procedures as delegated and trained.
Monitor students with chronic health conditions as directed by the nurse (e.g. diabetes asthma seizures).
Maintain accurate and confidential health records logs and documentation of clinic visits.
Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns under the direction of the school nurse.
Support the implementation of health screenings (vision hearing scoliosis etc.).
Follow infection control procedures and support a clean safe clinic environment.
Assist in identifying students who may require exclusion from school due to illness according to district and state guidelines.
Participate in emergency response procedures and assist during medical emergencies.
Support health education and wellness initiatives within the school community.
Perform other duties as assigned by the school nurse or administration.
Qualifications:
CNA Preferred
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience in healthcare childcare or school setting preferred.
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
Ability to communicate effectively with students parents staff and healthcare providers.
Knowledge of basic health practices safety protocols and confidentiality standards.
Compassion patience and professionalism in working with children and families.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand walk and move around the school campus.
Ability to lift and assist students if needed (up to 40 lbs).
Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
