Is responsible to and receives direction from assigned department supervisor. Work study employment provides students that have interest in a healthcare career and view Mayo Clinic as an employer of choice an opportunity to explore our culture gain field experience and pursue their career goals.
Within the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) the work study student is responsible for biological (e.g. blood urine) specimen receipt identification verification processing and storage. Other responsibilities include various clerical tasks maintaining supply inventory filing stocking and cleaning. Opportunities for career development will also be made available to all work study students.
Work study employees are responsible for indicating changes in financial aid award to their assigned supervisor as well as the work study office. The work study employee schedule will be arranged collaboratively between the work study employee and assigned department supervisor and in compliance with the financial aid award amount and minimum hours per week (10 hours) requirements.
Work locations may be in the Hilton Building in downtown Rochester or at the Superior Drive Support Center located in NW Rochester. Students will need transportation to the work site.
**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
This opportunity is open to applicants who meet all the following qualifications.
Graduated from high school or obtained a GED
Currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota - Rochester (UMR)
Granted a minimum financial work study award of $2700 for the academic year.
*If you are selected for this position you will be required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.

To be a successful work study student you must possess the following skills:
Ability to be attentive to details and to adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals reagents and infectious agents
Computer or keyboarding experience
Good human relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
