Job Description

The University of Chicagos Department of Medicine invites applications for Assistant Instructional Professors in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program (BMS BMS is a one-year program designed to provide foundational training in biomedicine. The core curriculum focuses on the applications and innovations in clinical care and medical treatment statistics bioethics and the American healthcare system. Students concentrate in Science Communication Biomedical Data Science Health Systems Science Biomedical Innovation Biological Sciences and Biomedical Ethics and complete an independent project under the supervision of faculty and/or external professionals. Our current course offerings are here: will teach 4-6 courses per academic year in addition to substantial mentoring and service responsibilities. Their courses include a required core course a graduate-level seminar on grant writing and biomedical sciences electives according to program addition appointees will advise students on their independent research projects and quarterly course selection serving as first and second readers on projects and providing broad academic and professional guidance to a cohort of masters students in weekly office hours. They also closely advise students and alumni who are applying to postgraduate programs. Other non-classroom duties include participating in admissions and recruiting as well as other co-curricular academic programming. They hire and manage teaching assistants and contribute to program operations participate in pedagogy workshops and our annual student poster conference. This is a full-time career-track teaching position. The initial three-year appointment will begin in Academic Year 2026-2027 and is renewable with opportunity for promotion. Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications. For information on benefits please consult the University of Chicago Benefits Guide: to the start of employment qualified applicants must: 1) have completed a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences or related fields (e.g. cell and molecular biology biochemistry immunology pharmacology etc.); 2) have prior university level teaching experience in relevant course(s).
