Job Description

As a Mechanical Technician for Collimator Systems you will join the Targets Collimators and Dumps (TCD) Section of the Sources Targets and Interactions (STI) Group within the Accelerator Systems (SY) this role you will contribute your expertise to the team by overseeing the production of collimators and masks within WP5 of the HighLuminosity LHC Project.

The role involves supporting critical operational tasks such as mechanical assemblies components logistics onsite assembly area management execution of assembly and testing procedures related to collimators and masks essential for LS3 (Long Shutdown 3).

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a crucial phase of the HLLHC Project (WP5). To prosper and grow in this position you should possess a blend of technical proficiency handson skills and a proactive approach to problemsolving.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Executing collimator reception tests quality checks and related mechanical assembly activities ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
  • Managing the tests related to the collimators surface mock up:
    • Handling of collimators;
    • Monitoring of the tests with other CERN teams;
    • Writing test reports.
  • Assisting with the removal of collimators from the LHC Machine organising the storage and modifying some radioactive supports.
  • Managing the thermal test bench of collimator jaws (located in Italy) replacing parts and conducting maintenance when required.
  • Organising and following up with transport and packing for hardware.
  • Ordering components required for the surface activities of collimators at CERN.
  • When required managing the production of parts and subassemblies required for the collimators.
  • If project schedule allows participating in the collimators and masks installation in the machine.

Job closing date: 29th of May at 23:59 (midnight) CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Target start date: 01September2025

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Use of certain mobile work equipment or equipment used for lifting loads (lifting equipment bridge cranes aerial work platforms etc.) requiring a driving authorization.

Given the occupational health risks associated with this position the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
