HOUSING OUTREACH WORKER

Job Type: Full Time

Vacancies: 1

Location: City of Sault Ste Marie

Hours of Work: Standard Days; includes occasional evenings and weekends (37.5 hours/ wk.)

Annual Salary Range: $50000 - $55000

Signing Bonus: A signing bonus will be offered to the successful candidate upon hire.


Do you want to join a dynamic team We are looking an individual to join our Niigaaniin team as a housing outreach worker to support our community members who are experiencing homelessness and/or struggling to obtain housing.

PURPOSE

The Housing Outreach Worker will work to actively bridge community members experiencing homelessness and /or struggling to attain housing by supporting with housing outreach application processes and any other relevant Anishnabe services and programs as necessitated by service plans.

This position will also work to develop and monitor community member Service/Action Plans and they will conduct self-administered assessments of individuals dimensions to determine their pathway through services.

As partnerships are the key to the success of the Niigaaniin Services the Housing Outreach Worker is required to cooperate and work with the participating First Nations and other community-based and external organizations. They will collaborate with external services to ensure access to culturally appropriate supports and internal services as requested.

The Housing Outreach Worker will assist community members in achieving life stabilization and employability goals by facilitating Mino Bimaadizidaa curriculum in group and individual settings.


QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements

  • It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services including Batchewana First Nation Garden River First Nation Thessalon First Nation Mississauga First Nation Serpent River First Nation Sagamok Anishnawbek Atikameksheng Anishnawbek and Wahnapitae First Nation
  • Career in Social Services Work and/or Diploma in Social Services Work and/or equivalent work experience
  • 2-5 years employment experience working with indigenous people and facilitating groups of diverse clients facing multiple barriers to employment is preferred
  • Must provide a Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position
  • Must provide a Drivers Abstract
  • Must maintain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to travel and
  • Must have a valid Class G Drivers License with a reliable vehicle.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty
  • Will be knowledgeable about the culture and the significant characteristics of the social structure and relevant human services needs of Anishnawbe
  • All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population
  • Familiar with Employment Ontario Programs and Services
  • Solid knowledge of the Employment Ontario Programs Canadian/Ontario labour market Canadian/Ontario workplace practices job search strategies and techniques
  • Familiar with return-to-work strategies life skills employment training and counselling
  • Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset
  • Ability to balance target outcomes with quality client care
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial policies and legislation regulations and/or guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of Niigaaniin services
  • Knowledge of the local labour market is essential; knowledge of broader labour market conditions and how to obtain information is also necessary
  • Will have a thorough knowledge of the range of relevant community-based and external programs and services available to community members
  • Will be knowledgeable of the range of both contemporary and traditional methods of intervention assessment counselling support training and healing that are effective in promoting community family and individual development and well-being
  • Solid understanding of Personal Protective Equipment related to the role of Mental Health and Addictions
  • Ability to navigate and bridge service pathways back to first nation community-based supports for eligible members based on individual need
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written)
  • Excellent stress management skills
  • Efficient time management skills with adherence to timelines and deadline and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to learn new skills and be flexible to adapt to changing workload
  • Able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities and
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
