Job Summary

About the Position

Girton Grammar School is seeking an experienced Teacher with a focus on student engagement pastoral care and student services
within an educational setting.

This is a 3-year position of responsibility with an underlying ongoing teaching position starting in January 2026. For external applicants teaching methods in Physical Education or English are desirable.


The Head of House plays a crucial role in fostering the well-being engagement and academic success of students within their House. This role involves providing pastoral care promoting student leadership ensuring strong academic outcomes and maintaining effective communication with students staff andparents. The Head of House will work collaboratively with the Assistant Head of House House Mentors andother departments to ensure that students are fully supported both academically and personally. Thisposition also includes teaching allocated classes in their subject area.

Key Selection Criteria / Essential Qualifications and Skills

Education: Bachelors degree in Education a Masters degree is desirable.
Experience: Significant experience in a role focused on student engagement pastoral care or student services within an educational setting.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire students and staff within a House system.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic initiatives that foster student engagement well-being and academic success.
  • Capacity to model and promote the schools values including equity respect and inclusion

Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and the ability to support students emotional social and academic needs.
  • Experience in managing student behaviour and wellbeing programs including restorative practices and proactive interventions.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with students families and staff to support individual and collective well-being.

Team Collaboration and Staff Development

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to enhance House culture and student outcomes.
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting staff including early career teachers within a pastoral or leadership context.
  • Commitment to professional learning and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.


Communication and Community Engagement

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to engage effectively with students parents and the broader school community.
  • Experience in organising and leading House events assemblies and community-building activities.
  • Ability to represent the House and school professionally in internal and external forums.

Commitment to Equity and Inclusion

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to gender equality diversity and inclusive education practices.
  • Ability to identify and address barriers to participation and success for all students including those from underrepresented groups.
  • Familiarity with the schools gender equality policies and capacity to contribute to ongoing improvement in equity outcomes.


Organisational and Administrative Skills

  • Strong organisational skills including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in using data to inform decision-making track student progress and report outcomes.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and systems relevant to student management and communication.
