The successful candidate will join the experienced team of physiotherapists and multi-disciplinary colleagues delivering Beaumont Hospitals Physiotherapy Services across the range of settings which include the Emergency department inpatient wards and Physiotherapy outpatients across 2 sites Beaumont Hospital and St. Josephs Hospital Raheny. The Physiotherapy Department facilitates student placements for RCSI and UCD undergraduate and post graduate students. The successful candidate will have responsibility for UCD students and may be required to assist with RCSI student placements pending service needs. The Physiotherapy Department is part of the Clinical Services Division in Beaumont Hospital.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational
The Senior Physiotherapist will:
In collaboration with the physiotherapy team be responsible for developing organising implementing and evaluating the physiotherapy service in the Beaumont Hospital
Contribute to service provision planning and delivery of care across the broad physiotherapy team with specific focus on service provision within own physiotherapy service.
Ensure a safe working environment for patients and staff at all times and read and act upon all issued staff policies.
Assess and manage risk in their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Take the appropriate timely action to manage any incidents or near misses within their assigned area(s).
Report any deficiency/danger in any aspect of the service to the team or Physiotherapy Manager as appropriate.
Be accountable for the budget where relevant.
Carry out the duties of a Senior Physiotherapist in the hospital and at such other locations as may be required by the Chief Executive or designated officer. The Senior Physiotherapist may be expected to rotate between St. Josephs Hospital Raheny and Beaumont Hospital.
To provide expert advice and guidance for other healthcare professionals patients and carers.
To carry a caseload of patients who have been referred to the Physiotherapy Department.
The post holder will attend relevant departmental and multidisciplinary meetings and will be involved in strategic planning for patients referred to the Physiotherapy Department.
Ensure that the Physiotherapy Manager is informed on an on-going basis about matters clinical and otherwise affecting the running of the specialist area.
Record clinical and non-clinical activity data for the service and submit monthly data reports as stipulated by the physiotherapy manager. It is also necessary to prepare an annual service plan and service report to be submitted to the physiotherapy manager.
Professional
The Senior Physiotherapist will:
Ensure that a high standard of physiotherapy assessment and treatment is provided for all patients within his/her area of responsibility.
Demonstrate evidence based practice through the process of clinical reasoning and decision making allowing knowledge to be applied to complex/different situations.
Ensure that all requests for physiotherapy treatment within his/her speciality are allocated to appropriate staff and liaise with relevant medical staff for maximum effectiveness of treatment discharge and follow up.
Maintain patient records and to collect statistics as required by the department and service and in accordance with departmental hospital and professional standards.
Contribute to business planning and business cases.
Liaise with staff of other disciplines in providing multi-disciplinary services for certain groups of patients.
Liaise with services outside the hospital to provide continuing care for patients.
Comply with the delivery of standards in the assessment treatment and management of patients in line with international best practice guidelines.
Promote a culture that values diversity and respect in the workplace.
Provide supervision and conduct appraisals for staff grade physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants as required.
Education and Research
The Senior Physiotherapist will:
Manage participate and play a key role in the practice education of student therapists in partnership with universities and clinical educators.
Teach advise and supervise junior staff including participation in in-service training.
Participate in teaching programmes for other professionals and ancillary staff.
Lead promote and ensure clinical effectiveness of the physiotherapy service through performance management education audit and research
Be a resource of speciality advice within the hospital.
Take responsibility for and keep up to date with physiotherapy practice by participating in continuing professional development such as reflective practice in service self-directed learning research clinical audit etc.
Key Working Relationships
The Senior Physiotherapist will:
Work collaboratively with other physiotherapists medical nursing and other health and social care professionals across the acute and community services in providing optimal clinical care and in further developing the service.
Establish links with other organisations both national and international where appropriate providing support and information regarding this clinical area and utilising these additional resources where necessary to benefit patient care.

Accountability
Senior Physiotherapist will report to Physiotherapy Manager in Charge III for physiotherapy clinical governance attendance and service performance management.
Selection Criteria:
Selection criteria outline the qualifications skills knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.

Mandatory:
1. Statutory Registration Professional Qualifications Experience etc
(a) Candidates for appointment must:
(i) Be registered or be eligible for registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU. See attached link for the current approved Physiotherapist qualifications:

AND
(ii) Candidates must have three years full time (or an aggregate of three years full time) post qualification clinical experience.
AND
(iii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
AND
(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
2. Annual registration
(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
AND
(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
3. Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
4. Character
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
5. Role Suitability
Demonstrate a proven record of clinical /academic achievement including continuing development in this specialist field.
6. Additional Skills
Be available to work on call rota for respiratory and orthopaedic services as required by physiotherapy management and have the necessary training at undergraduate level.

Individuals who qualified before 30th September 2018 and are registered or have applied for registration under Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 must hold a Physiotherapy qualification approved by CORU in order to be eligible to apply.
