Job Title: System Blood Bank Specialist - Lead Rate of Pay: $39936.00 per year. The employer will pay or exceed the prevailing wage as determined by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Job Description:
Follow the laboratorys procedures when training new employees on specimen handling test analyses
& reporting results; work with the Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine & Blood Bank Manager
to develop & maintain policies & procedures that reflect best manufacturing practices; initiate &
implement new specialized Blood Bank testing to decrease test turnaround & improve patient
outcomes; support external agency inspections; demonstrate instrument operation & troubleshoot to
ensure proper functionality; perform annual employee direct observation of patient testing instrument
maintenance & function checks to determine employee competency; assist with education of medical
laboratory scientist students medical lab technician students residents & other hospital personnel;
document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys performance
specifications; report STATS or critical results to providers; adhere to the laboratorys quality control
policies document quality control activities instrument & procedural calibrations & maintenance
performed; ensure reagents/test kits have received dates expiration dates & opened dates; maintain
records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient
specimens; follow accrediting agency standards CAP AABB FDA CLIA HIPAA OSHA Joint
Commission & safety guidelines; & participate in safety training sessions & attend & contribute to
Lab & Blood Bank meetings. A System Blood Bank Specialist - Lead at UofL Health plays a critical
role in supporting the education and training of medical technologists/clinical laboratory scientists
medical technology students residents and other healthcare professionals who rotate or shadow
within the Blood Bank department. The Leads teaching responsibilities are conducted in a clinical
setting and involve hands-on practical instruction. Their teaching responsibilities are not conducted in
a classroom setting. Specifically the Technical Lead for Systems Blood Bank provides orientation to
the laboratory environment explains procedures workflows and instrumentation and ensures that
those rotating through the department gain a clear understanding of Blood Bank operations. They
serve as the primary point of contact during these rotations and speak on behalf of the department
providing both technical guidance and educational support
