Department Summary

The Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver is accepting applications for an Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs. The Morgridge College of Education is a graduate professional school dedicated to creating positive change by unleashing the power of learning. The college provides advanced degrees in curriculum and instruction counseling psychology early childhood special education education leadership and public policy higher education research methods and library information science school counseling school psychology and teacher preparation. Morgridges mission is to be a force for positive change in the lives of individuals organizations and communities by preparing highly competent socially responsible ethical and caring professionals; engaging in learning partnerships; contributing high-quality research; and modeling excellence in all our educational programs.

Position Summary

The University of Denvers Morgridge College of Education invites applications for an Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs a vital member of the Morgridge Dean Leadership team. We seek a dynamic and visionary leader with prior experience coordinating or administering academic programs. The Assistant Dean will report to the Dean of Morgridge providing strategic leadership and effective administration to advance the mission of the College. This position requires a demonstrated commitment to the overall success of the college including faculty student and staff success; who uses data and research to inform organizational decisions; and who is committed to supporting and enacting The Morgridge College of Educations values.

The Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs in collaboration with Morgridge College of Education Leaders will ensure that Morgridges various programs exceeds accreditation benchmarks and sustains strong reputational excellence through mission-driven goals and objectives. The Assistant Dean will assist in stewarding the Colleges evolving strategic plan meet regularly with campus stakeholders and work collaboratively and collegially with faculty staff students and administrators.

Depending on the background of the candidate the opportunity for appointment as a faculty member at the rank Associate or full Professor may be possible. If a current DU faculty member is chosen for this position this individual will have the opportunity to retain their current series rank and tenure status. With the faculty appointment the primary affiliation for employment status and benefits will be as a faculty. This is a twelve-month position.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities of the position include:

Academic Affairs:

  • Exercise initiative and facilitate development of new academic programs (e.g. on the ground and online) in collaboration with department chairs and program coordinators
  • Conduct annual assessments every other year of each program to determine program viability (e.g. number of masters and doctoral students number of faculty projected enrollments in required courses and all associated budget implications) and provide a report to the Dean offering recommendations to balance high quality student experiences with budget considerations.
  • Support existing academic programs and accreditation including handbooks degree requirements program assessment liaison to 2U (The Morgridge College of Educations online programs) which engages aspects of the contractual agreement with 2U and The Morgridge College of Education as well as student enrollment and recruitment.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Faculty and Diversity Equity Inclusion and Justice Department Chairs and Center directors build and strengthen relationships with internal and external partners (e.g. CAHASS community organizations school partners) to support new programs.
  • Support a strong leadership team of Department Chairs to support academic excellence in all our programs and ensure expeditious scheduling and optimize faculty workloads and resolution of student and administrative issues.
  • Oversee academic exceptions appeals and dismissals in collaboration with department chairs.
  • Engage in strategic planning collaborate with Department Chairs and the Associate director for accreditation and Assessment to gather and interpret data to determine programmatic needs and advise the Dean on programs and approaches that advance THE Morgridge College of Education strategic needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Morgridge College of Education Assistant Deans Assistant Deans and Department Chairs to implement policies as appropriate.
  • Represent the Morgridge College of Education to Graduate Council and Internationalization Council.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative Leadership:

  • Contribute to the overall success of the College and University through participation in the Deans Leadership Team College-Wide Leadership Team and the evolving strategic planning process and the Morgridge College of Education priorities
  • Support a strong leadership team of Department Chairs through regular meetings and developmental opportunities.
  • Oversee data gathering and decision making (e.g. record keeping of course enrollments budgets student data accreditation data)
  • Develop build and maintain relationships with the Morgridge College of Educations Internal partners such as the Office of Graduate Education Division of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence and the Office of Internationalization and external partners such as industry representatives advisory committee members community partners and other groups and organizations.
  • Contribute to discussions of the annual budget process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a discipline (or closely related field) offered through Morgridge.
  • Currently appointed at the Associate or Professor rank.
  • Experience successfully coordinating or administering academic programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively and collegially with faculty staff students and administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in and lead out-of-the-box creative problem solving to ensure high quality student experiences while also attending to budget constraints and faculty workloads.
  • Demonstrated performance in making sound independent judgments.
  • Strong process management skills analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills including complete familiarity with MS Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently appointed at the Associate or Professor rank (series not restricted).
  • Experience in higher education student affairs.

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
3 year appointment 8 credits of course release and $15K stipend.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
