About the Team:

The Wall Street Journal Leadership Institute is designed to help business leaders master a world of accelerating change. To succeed they need access to accurate unbiased and up-to-date information which The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones have traditionally provided them and a deep network of peer executives to discuss debate and decide on how to navigate the biggest challenges that businesses face today whether from disruptive new technologies an evolving geopolitical landscape a changing energy paradigm rising stakeholder demands or shifting workplace norms. The WSJ Leadership Institute consists of executive peer communities called Councils (CEO Council CMO Council CFO Council etc.) which provides a variety of content and in-person experiences for members and unique access to data only available within Dow Jones.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Director Business Operations to drive growth and lead operational strategy for our executive peer this role you will be responsible for overseeing the daily business operations across all membership communities for the WSJ Leadership Institute and ensuring all stakeholders are included and informed. As part of this role you will be responsible for coordinating information and decision-making across a wide range of internal groups including marketing sales events product and communications as well as external partners.

You will also serve as the primary driver of managing the WSJLI P&L performance including coordinating with finance on spend T&E and financial projections ensuring leadership team members are aware of P&L decisions that need to be made and tracking to performance and support all business operations through liaising with the legal team on contracts. And in this role you will also help operationalize and maintain external partnerships to further WSJLIs ambitious growth goals.

This role reports to the Senior Vice President and Head of Content of WSJLI.

You Will:

  • Oversee and optimize daily business operations across all verticals of WSJLI including ensuring alignment of stakeholders socializing decisions with leaders capturing open items that need to be resolved and aligning team members
  • Manage current and future direct reports including WSJLIs Business Manager.
  • Collaborate closely with department heads (e.g. Sales Marketing Events HR Finance) across developing and executing workstreams for WSJLI including
    • Budgeting for hiring vendors T&E
    • Aligning on spend for events marketing technology
    • Materials and strategy for taking new memberships to market
    • Solving for challenges within the business through process technology or other solutions
  • Be a strategic thought leader in building future-states for WSJLI including
    • New membership launches
    • New benefit launches
    • Implementing technologies for internal use
    • New revenue opportunities
  • Manage the implementation of a CRM for the memberships team from finalizing contract signatures to tech implementation/build and onboarding/training of the team
  • Analyze business data (financial membership revenue) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Lead and manage cross-functional projects from inception to completion ensuring deadlines and objectives are met.
  • Own budgeting processes ensuring that senior leadership team members are receiving all inputs and information correctly have provided feedback and are seeing their goals reflected accurately with finance.
  • Manage ongoing team T&E spend to ensure the team is remaining within budget guidelines while also ensuring budgets reflect necessary spending to achieve growth targets.
  • Keep a weekly view of the P&L to understand progress against budget and performance highlighting where gaps may be forming for leadership team
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for:
    • Finance
    • HR
    • Sponsorships

You Have:

  • Preferably 12 years of experience in high-level planning operations strategy business operations strategic partnerships and business development.
  • Deep experience working with cross-functional partners in marketing legal sales communications and events.
  • Understanding of both start-up culture and established media business is preferred.
  • Experience working with a membership or subscription business model
