The University of Iowas International Programs is excited to welcome a full-time Study Abroad Advisor & Program Coordinator to join its vibrant study abroad unit and community.
Passionate about global learning Join our team as a Study Abroad Advisor & Program Coordinator and help undergraduate students turn their study abroad dreams into reality! From choosing the right program to navigating applications housing and credit transfer youll guide students every step of the way. Youll also promote international opportunities across campus and collaborate with key offices to support a seamless experience. Make a lasting impacton campus and around the world!
In this role youll be able to:
- Advise undergraduate students on study abroad programs that align with their academic personal and professional goals. Serve as designated advisor for a portfolio of majors.
- Collaborate with International Programs colleagues UI academic advisors and study abroad providers to solve issues related to program applications passports visas and course approvals.
- Guide students through program applications and predeparture planning utilizing in-person and virtual appointments and effective email communication to explain procedures and disseminate information.

About the Department:At the University of Iowa International Programs functions as a catalyst for internationalization and a hub for international activities. In 1997 the Iowa Board of Regents brought international research instruction and services together under the leadership of an associate provost and dean and assistant provost for International Programs. The International Programs department provides leadership and support for internationally oriented teaching research creative work and community engagement.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelors degree in liberal arts or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Reasonable (minimum of 1 year) office or administration experience.
Competencies Required:
- Demonstrates a Working proficiency level in the following competencies:
- Ability to work with students in an advisor and/or instructor role including knowledge of course arrangement and academic planning.
- Ability to provide academic counseling to assist students.
- Interpersonal oral and written communications skills; ability to effectively transmit receive and accurately interpret ideas information and needs through appropriate and diplomatic communication methods and behaviors.
- Managing multiple concurrent objectives meetings projects groups or activities demonstrating the ability to prioritize and allocate time effectively.
- Carrying out ongoing office administration tasks effectively and efficiently in support of individuals teams and/or units including proficient organizational clerical and time management skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office software applications including Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and Teams.
- Ability to work with students in an advisor and/or instructor role including knowledge of course arrangement and academic planning.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the role of study abroad advising in higher education.
- Shows an understanding of the undergraduate student experience at either a 2 or 4-year institution.
- Experience and engagement in intercultural and international education settings including academic extracurricular or professional contexts.
Desirable Qualifications:
- 1 3 years experience working in a university study abroad office.
- International experience studying and/or working abroad.
- Experience in student or academic advising.
- Familiarity with the Standards of Good Practice set forth by The Forum on Education Abroad.
- Familiarity of international travel regulations health safety and visa processes and considerations.
- Experience at a large public or private university especially related to student administration.
- Demonstrates a WORKING proficiency level in:
- Filemaker Pro and/or study abroad management software.
- Filemaker Pro and/or study abroad management software.

Work Modality:This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Compensation: $50000 $60000 with Competitive Benefits
