Location: Carriage & Wagon Workshop Perambur Chennai
Department: Operations & Project Delivery
Employment Type: Full-Time Fixed Term (Initial Term: 24 Months)
Compensation:per month (Negotiable for exemplary profiles).

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and disciplined Project Manager preferably a retired officer from the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) to lead our railway wagon corrosion repair and structural maintenance project in Chennai. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles proven leadership experience in the armed forces and the ability to drive SLA adherence team coordination and stakeholder engagement in high-performance environments.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Oversee the execution of corrosion repair and mechanical rehabilitation works on BOXN BOBRN and BOST wagons within the C&W Workshop Perambur.

  • Implement daily weekly and monthly work schedules in line with Indian Railways SLAs and technical specifications.

  • Ensure timely wagon delivery in accordance with light medium and heavy repair timelines as defined in the contract.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Uphold statutory compliance as per the Factory Act Railway Board standards and project-specific safety norms.

  • Supervise inspection workflows maintain audit logs and address deviation reports raised by client engineers.

Team & Site Leadership

  • Lead a multi-skilled team of welders fitters supervisors and helpers; ensure performance discipline and safety adherence.

  • Conduct daily tool-box talks track manpower deployment and resolve site-level conflicts or escalations.

Operational Coordination

  • Liaise with the clients inspecting officials and the company s internal QA/QC engineering and planning teams.

  • Ensure optimal utilization of materials consumables and equipment as per budgetary constraints.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain all statutory and project registers (Form A D Site Orders Work Diaries Inspection Logs Billing Support).

  • Submit accurate MIS reports inspection summaries billing certifications and work completion documents.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Retired Commissioned Officer from Indian Army (EME Corps) Preferably JCO and Above Ranks

  • Bachelors or Diploma in Mechanical Automobile or Production Engineering.

Experience

  • 15 years of experience in military workshop/field maintenance roles.

  • 3 5 years of civilian industry experience in project management preferably in railway defence production or infrastructure EPC.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven command in preventive maintenance mechanical rehabilitation and welding/fabrication standards.

  • Excellent leadership problem-solving and manpower management skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Excel Project Tracking Tools ERPNext.

  • Strong written and verbal communication in Tamil English and Hindi.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Adherence to wagon delivery timelines (SLA compliance)

  • Quality compliance score (based on inspection reports)

  • Daily labour productivity and efficiency ratios

  • Penalty minimization across all monthly billing cycles

  • Site audit and safety adherence ratings
