This position will serve as an OSI Investigator for the Office of Special Investigations with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS). The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) ensures that the integrity of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS) is maintained through an internal system in which independence fairness and justice are guaranteed by an impartial investigation and independent review of alleged violations of laws rules or policies made against any DPS employee volunteer or contractor that could significantly impact the ability of DPS to accomplish its mission. The Office of Special Investigations upholds the publics trust by conducting unbiased thorough investigations of alleged employee misconduct while seeking the truth safeguarding the rights of employees and citizens and ensuring that all persons involved are treated with respect. Further the mission of the Office of Special investigations is to maintain an ethical work environment which creates and sustains trust between DPS and the citizens of North Carolina.
Job duties for this position include:
The OSI Investigator must have a good understanding of the rules regulations and policies governing the various divisions and sections of the Department. The investigator will have a great deal of contact with the public and law enforcement community and assess the need of outside law enforcement involvement and make necessary contact and requests. This position may also conduct EEO investigations pertaining to prohibition of discrimination in employment on the basis of sex race color national origin age genetic information or persons with disabilities when EEO does not accept a case for investigation. The OSI investigator must accurately interpret communicate and explain relevant division policies and procedures; must be able to apply analysis and judgment in investigation allegations of unacceptable person conduct through careful consideration of the situation defining the problem objectively and offering investigative findings; must be able to keep detailed and organized records and accurately prepare and complete a comprehensive investigative report of their work and findings in accordance with OSI policy and procedure.

Experience investigating administrative internal and/or criminal complaints.
Experience preparing written investigation reports.
Work experience in Criminal Justice Human Resources and/or Law Enforcement.
Working knowledge of the methods procedures and/or practices used in the investigation of administrative internal and/or criminal complaints.
Working knowledge of the laws that govern the investigation of administrative internal and/or criminal complaints.
