ISP Upper School Math Role Profile

Purpose of Role

The Upper School Math Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in mathematics to students in grades 612 fostering critical thinking problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. The role supports students academic and personal development by creating an engaging inclusive and challenging learning environment. The teacher plays a key role in preparing students for standardized assessments higher education and real-world applications of mathematics while also contributing to the broader school community through collaboration and extracurricular involvement.

ISP Upper School Math Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan and Deliver Instruction
    Design and implement engaging rigorous math lessons aligned with the curriculum standards (e.g. Algebra Geometry Pre-Calculus Calculus Statistics).
  2. Differentiate Instruction
    Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs learning styles and ability levels of students.
  3. Assess and Track Student Progress
    Develop administer and grade assessments; provide timely constructive feedback; and maintain accurate academic records.
  4. Foster Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
    Encourage mathematical reasoning inquiry and real-world application of math concepts.
  5. Create a Positive Learning Environment
    Establish a classroom culture that promotes respect collaboration curiosity and academic integrity.
  6. Integrate Technology
    Use digital tools and platforms to enhance instruction support learning and facilitate communication with students and parents.
  7. Collaborate with Colleagues
    Work with other faculty members to align curriculum share best practices and support interdisciplinary projects or school initiatives.
  8. Communicate with Families
    Maintain open professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress classroom expectations and school events.
  9. Participate in School Life
    Contribute to the broader school community by attending meetings participating in professional development and supporting extracurricular programs or student events.
  10. Maintain Professional Standards
    Stay current with developments in math education and pedagogy; comply with school policies safeguarding requirements and ethical standards

Skills Qualifications and Experience

Skills:

Classroom management Skilled in maintaining a respectful focused and supportive learning environment

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Mathematics Mathematics Education or a related field (required).

Experience:

25 years of experience teaching mathematics at the Upper School level.
