Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Collect and enter billing information for field trips and extra-curricular activities including rentals. Schedules and assigns vehicles and drivers for field trips and extra-curricular activities. Drive bus as a substitute bus driver when needed.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Valid Texas commercial drivers license (Class B or Class A with Passenger and School Bus Driver Endorsements)

Texas School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Effective telephone and radio communication skills

Ability to receive and give verbal instructions effectively

Proficient map reading skills

Basic math skills

Ability to use a personal computer to do word processing databases and spreadsheets

Ability to use specialized computer programs dealing with transportation routing planning and trip scheduling.

Ability to operate bus

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Daily Operations

  1. Coordinate field trips and extra-curricular transportation for the district.
  2. Manages field trip requests for assigned schools and ensures proper scheduling driver and vehicle assignment.
  3. Work with mechanics and fuelers to ensure efficient operation of the vehicles utilized for field trips. Inspect and prepare field trip vehicles for trips that occur during the school day after hours holidays and weekends.

Communication

  1. Maintain good public relations with community members students parents and school personnel.
  2. Interact with special program administrators and school officials concerning transportation.
  3. Ensure that requestors are provided with a solution for their transportation request.
  4. Recruit and assign drivers for field trips and extra-curricular activities.

Vehicle Operation

  1. Serve as substitute bus driver and field trip driver.

Reports/Records

  1. Maintain mileage records on extra-curricular trips for billing purposes.
  2. Maintain records on all drivers including extracurricular drivers pertaining to physicals and driver certification.
  3. Schedules all district employees for physicals renewal and for Bus Driver Certification or Recertification through certified training program.
  4. Prepare various reports as required by the state district or department.
  5. Post trips in trip book and send out confirmations.
  6. Must handle all student/employee records and information with confidentiality.
  7. Review GPS data reports frequently to ensure safe driving and operation of district white fleet used to transport students.

Other:

  1. Serve as alternate for office positions as needed.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Equipment Used:

Radio communication equipment computer typewriter telephone intercom system copier fax machine school buses and other district vehicles.

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting carrying stooping kneeling and reaching.

Lifting: Heavy lifting

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Clear speech; repetitive hand motions; early split shift work; ability to manage many projects simultaneously
