Job/Position Summary
The plant controller is responsible for leading the finance and accounting activities for our manufacturing facility located in Matamoros Mexico. While our shared services team provides support for day-to-day transactional processing account reconciliations and internal control performance this position oversees their work and is ultimately responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the accounting records and executing the financial close process within prescribed deadlines.
This leadership position is for an individual with a well-rounded portfolio of experiences including general accounting knowledge inventory valuation using a standard costing methodology and ability to analyze manufacturing and spending trend variances to tell the story behind the results. This position is a key member of management and is the finance leader for the largest manufacturing facility for within our business unit. The role is responsible for the annual and quarterly budgeting process and is a key partner in the monthly operational review. The Plant Controller frequently interacts with corporate and business unit leadership. This position will report directly to the S&M SBU Controller with a dotted line to the Plant Manager.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Serves as the primary partner to our Plant Manager to drive operational performance improvement using data to assist in managerial oversight.
- Recommends process improvements in efforts to decrease inventory levels and improve profitability
- With assistance from our finance shared services organization performs monthly close process mainly related to cost accounting and associated journal entries. Ensures completeness and accuracy of site financial statements.
- Maintains a strong level of compliance with internal controls.
- Ensures valuation of inventory is accurate in a standard costing environment.
- Prepares monthly/periodic reports to enhance managements understanding of the results. Analyzes spending reports & trends and prepares month end flash report and site operations review presentation.
- Responsible for quarterly forecasting and the annual operating plan process.
- Identifies reasons for fluctuations in our actual inventory costing valuation done in SAP.
- Prepares and calculates the quarterly inventory reserve.
- Prepares and analyzes product line P&Ls and comparisons to forecasts and annual operating plan.
- Coordinates and tracks cost reduction projects.
- Ensures production data is accurate and timely so that useful information is available for costing inventory valuation variance analysis pricing and other decision making.
- Prepares and reviews manufacturing metrics including lean KPIs and weekly manufacturing variances (labor efficiencies PPV scrap).
- Responsible for annual standard cost setting process.
- Assist in preparing capital expenditure requests including financial justifications when required.
- Plans coordinates and reconciles the annual physical inventory count.
- Supports internal and external audits.
- Responsible for coordination with plant manager to develop the annual operating plan and quarterly forecasts.
- Completes various department projects/analysis as necessary.

Required Education and Experience
- BS/BA in Accounting or Finance and 8 years of experience in an accounting role
- Knowledge of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment required
- SAP experience highly preferred but not required
- English proficiency required ability to read write and effectively communicate in English is necessary
- USGAAP and Mexican GAAP required
