About the Role:
As a Senior Underwriter youll take on a dynamic mix of underwriting and marketing responsibilities showcasing your expertise in both client relationship management and technical role will require a strong blend of analytical thinking industry knowledge and interpersonal skills to consistently deliver exceptional service.
This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days onsite 2 remote in either Warren NJ New York City or Stamford CT.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Key responsibilities for the position include new and renewal underwriting of individual risk (IR) accounts that include general liability automobile liability workers compensation and excess/umbrella liability while adhering to underwriting rules pricing and selection standards/guidelines and profitability metrics.
Developing and cultivating new and existing carrier and reinsurance broker relationships to maintain an opportunity pipeline that will lead to the achievement of department premium & production goals.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Contribute to specific performance plans assigned to the IR division to reach our projected premium and profitability goals.
Collaborate with all functional areas of the company including claims accounting contract wording and actuarial to support company objectives.
Maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies market trends in the insurance and reinsurance marketplace.
Attend industry conferences/meetings as necessary.
Travel as required to achieve the above.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree or above and insurance certifications or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years of casualty underwriting with commercial lines insurance company or reinsurance company (facultative program or treaty). Prior knowledge of reinsurance contracts is not necessary but a plus.
Ability to stay organized within a fast paced team-oriented and dynamic work environment with the ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize tasks.
Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting pricing for auto liability general liability workers compensation and excess/umbrella liability.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong relationship management and business development skills.
Possess excellent analytical skills.
Possess good computer skills including working knowledge of various Microsoft and web-based programs.
Knowledge Skills & Competencies:
Data Interpretation: Skill in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data recognizing trends and drawing meaningful conclusions.
Attention to Detail: Capability to notice subtle variations and errors in data ensuring accurate analysis and reporting.
Mathematical Proficiency: Strong understanding of statistical and mathematical principles to support data analysis.
Curiosity: A strong desire to explore question and understand complex issues driving deeper investigation and learning.
The base salary range for this position is $130000 - $160000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education experience qualifications and work location.
