As a Senior Policy Advisor you will work in an interesting and dynamic environment providing advice to Ministers on a range of critical housing policy issues and reforms. As part of the Policy team the Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for contributing to the delivery of our work programme including a range of exciting opportunities to make a difference to social and affordable housing in New Zealand.
The Social Housing and Other Supports team focuses on developing solutions and advising on policy settings to deliver social and affordable housing solutions for New Zealanders. We arefocussed on looking at ways to improve the social housing system to ensure it delivers the right homes in the right places for the right people. Opportunities in the team span policy regulatory and legislative work.
Opportunities include but not limited to:
Undertaking complex policy analysis leading development of innovative practical and durable solutions
Developing policy options (including through engagement with stakeholders) and providing policy advice often in areas that are complex and sensitive
Taking the lead and project managing complex policy work and project teams
Enhancing the overall capability of the team through coaching and mentoring team members during their day-to-day work and against their longer-term development plans
The salary range for this role is $105780 $129286.

As a policy professional you will be a critical thinker able to work on a range of complex and challenging issues and develop robust policy advice through a system wide lens. You should be comfortable leading policy work that achieves real tangible outcomes sometimes under urgency on often complex matters. You will be a confident communicator with experience working across agencies and with a range of stakeholders senior leaders and Ministers.
Ideally your skills and experience will include:
Experience leading advice on complex policy matters including on system wide issues
Experience providing technical coaching and analytical leadership to analysts
Ability to engage effectively with delivery agencies stakeholders and other government agencies
Clear and engaging writing style
Experience working on legislative and regulatory systems would be beneficial but is not a requirement
Sound judgment and an understanding of the machinery of government
Experience in the public service or central government
You must also:
Have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
Be able to obtain relevant checks and clearances that are required (e.g. security clearance)
