Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior IT Administrator to support our secure IT operations in compliance with NIST SP 800-171 and DFARS 252.204-7012 requirements. The Junior IT Administrator will assist with system administration security monitoring access control and daily IT operations ensuring that Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) is safeguarded in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) compliance standards. Position is located in SW Austin Texas

Key Responsibilities

System Administration

  • Provide day-to-day support for Windows and Linux servers desktops and virtual environments.
  • Monitor system performance apply patches and ensure regular updates are applied to maintain compliance.
  • Assist with user account provisioning de-provisioning and access reviews.

Security & Compliance

  • Support the implementation and enforcement of NIST 800-171 controls including access management encryption auditing and monitoring.
  • Assist with log collection review and retention for auditing purposes.
  • Monitor antivirus endpoint detection and intrusion prevention systems.

Data Protection

  • Ensure security of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) by following approved handling and safeguarding procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining encryption for data at rest and in transit.
  • Support backup disaster recovery and continuity of operations processes.

Network Administration

  • Assist in configuring and maintaining firewalls VPNs and secure remote access.
  • Monitor network activity for unusual or unauthorized behavior.

Policy & Documentation

  • Maintain IT documentation including System Security Plan (SSP) updates and procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing evidence and reports.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for IT security and administration tasks.

User Support

  • Provide Tier 12 IT support for end users including hardware software and connectivity issues.
  • Train users on security best practices and compliance requirements.

This role is designed to provide foundational IT and cybersecurity experience in a regulated environment with opportunities to grow into System Administrator Security Analyst or IT Compliance Specialist positions.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Information Technology Cybersecurity or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 12 years of IT support or system administration experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171 DFARS or CMMC frameworks is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Windows Active Directory Group Policy and Office 365 administration.
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP DNS DHCP VPN).
  • Exposure to security tools (SIEM endpoint protection vulnerability scanners).
  • Familiarity with backup/recovery solutions and patch management.

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to compliance.
  • Ability to follow procedures and document work accurately.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a security-focused team.

Clearance & Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required due to DoD contract requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (if required).
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and comply with organizational security policies.
