Overview and Job Summary
The Program Communications Officer is a key member of the office working closely with the China Food and Nature Resources Program China Sustainable Investment Program China Comms team and global peers to develop and carry out high-quality effective and timely communications.
This position requires a broad range of professional communication skills that will advance programs work in China to advance the reputation of the office and even the whole institute. The position requires strong skills in writing editing media relations stakeholder engagement and coordination.
Job Responsibilities
1. Program Communication Planning and Execution/
- Develop comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the programs strategies including short- and long-term plans.
- Translate program communication strategies into actionable communication actions messages and deliverables driving cross-programs/offices/functions collaboration to ensure efficient execution.

- Identify communication opportunities and risks propose innovative solutions and enhance the organizations public impact.

- Establish mechanisms to evaluate communication effectiveness and regularly report key communication goals indicators

- Provide timely support to the China Core Comnms communications team including message inputs branding promotion mechanism improvement internal communications support etc.
2. Content Creation & Event Support /
- Create and edit content related to project topics including but not limited to statements blogs reports and press releases.
- Plan and execute activities related to program topics including but not limited to agenda design conference arrangements media engagement and impact assessment.
3. Communication Coordination /
- Independently lead the communications efforts of large multinational projects coordinating with other country offices programs at WRI and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth progress of project communications.
WRI
- Respond to WRI global requests and coordinate with WRI China leadership and program staff for support and information requests.
WRIWRI
- Support relative communication activities (both internal and external) for programs including agenda setting media invitations and overseeing the design and production of event materials.
4.Media and Public Relations/
- Together with China Core Comms Team build and maintain long-term relationships with the media partners and stakeholders in program-related fields and sectors.
- For public opinion crisis with close collaboration with China Core Comms Team and China Compliance team develop crisis management plans in advance and respond swiftly to emergencies.
Qualifications
- At least 5-6 years of professional experience in a communications field either with the news media non-governmental organization (NGO) or public relations firm;

- Deep understanding of program-related topics like food agriculture biodiversity finance trade and supply chain;
- Deep understanding of international organizations and strong commitment to sustainable development.;
- Proficiency in email marketing and promotion on domestic and international social media platforms including WeChat Weibo LinkedIn facebbok and X with keen awareness of global trends and public sentiment.

- Willingness and ability to work travel throughout China and internationally. Adaptability to cross-cultural work environments international and domestic travel and multi-time-zone collaboration.
- Bachelors degree required with Masters preferred;
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English and Mandarin with professional experience;
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders including senior representatives at NGOs business and government;
Required Competencies
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English and Mandarin Chinese
- Strong communication planning skills including understanding of communication strategies
- Excellent organizational coordination and planning skills;
- Experience working with media and understanding of media relations with media contacts preferred;
- Understanding of online communications including writing and developing web content
- Ability to work independently and resolve problems; and work in a highly collaborative work environment.
