Job Description Summary
The Alumni Engagement Officer is responsible for developing implementing and coordinating alumni engagement programs and services in the Faculty of Medicine designed to facilitate a lifelong relationship with UBC students and alumni.
Major responsibilities include: managing the Facultys alumni programs including various department events fostering connections between alumni in their communities and the University; advising and applying best practices in guiding students alumni staff faculty and University partners in building vibrant alumni communities; alumni stewardship and serving as a resource to the Development and Alumni Engagement staff.

The Facultycomprised of approximately 2200 administrative support technical/research and management and professional staff as well approximately 650 full-time academic and over 10000 clinical faculty membersis composed of 19 academic basic science and/or clinical departments 3 schools and 25 research centres and institutes. Together with its University and Health Authority partners the Faculty delivers innovative programs and conducts research in the areas of health and life sciences. Faculty staff and trainees are located at university campuses clinical academic campuses in hospital settings and other regionally based centres across the province.
The UBC Vancouver Campus is located on the traditional ancestral and unceded territory of the xmkym (Musqueam) people. The City of Vancouver is located on Musqueam Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations territory.
Reports to the Associate Director Alumni Engagement in the Faculty of Medicine. Works in collaboration with departments and programs in the Faculty of Medicine and alumni UBC. Externally develops and maintains relationships with alumni donors and community members to develop and support programs aimed at connecting students with alumni and the community. May supervise and train student staff and volunteers.

esponsible for developing and implementing effective programs for students and alumni. Responsible for planning and executing effective Alumni Engagement programs and disseminating accurate information. Dissatisfied students and/or alumni would contribute to poor public relations for the University which in turn would have a negative effect on the Universitys ability to raise funds and recruit outstanding prospective students.
Supervision Received
The incumbent acts independently often without direct supervision but within established guidelines. The incumbent must exercise initiative and sound judgment in making decisions and planning and executing alumni activities and programs. Must demonstrate tact in dealing with faculty staff students alumni and the public. Works in close cooperation with the Development and Alumni Engagement team.

May train and supervise student staff and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of experience in a post-secondary education institute that includes experience working with alumni relations advancement or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer experience in office procedures budget management and accounting.
In addition related experience working with alumni volunteer coordination program coordination student development or other constituent of post-secondary institution or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication skills both verbally and written is critical in this role. Ability to prioritize multi-task and work effectively under pressure to meet to be thorough accurate and have a high level of attention to detail. Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm courteous and effective to prepare and track budgets with an understanding of basic accounting principles. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working to exercise tact and discretion when handling sensitive and/or confidential matters. Ability to analyze problems identify key information and issues and effectively to provide quality service in a courteous and solutions-oriented manner. Comfortable interacting with senior community members university leaders prominent alumni as well as to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to follow computer skills - proficient in MS Office. Ability to work in Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.Proficiency with online communication tools is an asset. Ability to contribute to the overall success of the organization while meeting individual performance requirements. Some evening and weekend work required.
