About the role
Reporting to the AVP Planning and Strategic Initiatives this role provides an opportunity for a creative thinker to solve key business problems in Sun Life Health.
What youll be doing
- Explore opportunities to improve income reduce expenses or increase capital efficiency:
Support development of and facilitate Sun Life Health Finances roadmap to generate shareholder value
Lead cross-functional teams designed to solve key business problems within Sun Life Health
Perform deep dives to find insightful and actionable solutions to improve income reduce expenses or increase capital efficiency
Potential for involvement in mergers & acquisitions and strategic partnerships
Provide ad-hoc support & work on special projects as required
- Partner with external reinsurance companies and internal partners to ensure the right reinsurance solutions are in place
- Partner with business development to develop and monitor progress towards annual sales plan
- Understand how value is created and the emergence of profit over time and influence and advocate for change where needed
- Develop and lead actuarial students and build the best performing team
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners
What youll need to succeed
Qualified Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
Strong collaboration and inter-personal skills
Strong organizational agility and project management skills
Highly motivated and independent thinking individual
Excellent communication skills (written verbal and presentation) with the ability to explain complex ideas to non-actuaries
Strong technical analytical and problem solving skills that allow for deep actuarial analysis
Previous knowledge of group benefits would be an asset
As this position is posted in several locations we specify that bilingualism (French English both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
