Description

Position Summary:

The Parent Educator is responsible for the implementation of family-centered home-bases services using a model assessments planning and referrals of families to community partners and agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide family-centered home-based services
  • Conduct the enrollment service planning and implementation of the Parents as Teachers Curriculum focusing on strengths and areas of concern.
  • Conduct home-visits addressing specific goals in the family service plan; conduct developmental screenings; make referrals and establish connections to other community resources identified in the service plan; facilitate educational groups.
  • Document services provided to the family and submit required paperwork in a timely well-organized fashion.
  • Participate in PAT staff meetings multi-disciplinary team meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Participate in community events and recruitment events
  • Follow agency policies regarding confidentiality and other consumer rights
  • Maintain flexible hours and schedule visits according to families needs while not exceeding the 40-hour work week and in adherence with scheduling requirements
  • Represent the agency in a professional manner within the community
  • Work well with other agencies personnel
  • Requires working flexible hours as determined by the agency including some evenings a month and occasionally on weekends
  • Requires extensive travel in the community and working in clients homes
  • Requires ability to tolerate exposure to tobacco smoke domestic animals household pests and other conditions common to a variety of home environments
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

The following requirements are those that are normally required for performance of this position. Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of sitting standing walking bending lifting or performing other work requiring low physical exertion talking hearing and adequate vision on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 80% of the time.

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Sciences Preferred
  • Associates Degree Required

Experience

  • 2 years experience working with parents and young children with Bachelors Degree
  • 5 years experience working with parents and young children with Associates Degree or equivalent

Special Skills

  • Knowledge of child development a range of child rearing practices and issues
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of appropriate use of screening materials
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess good data management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office especially Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Aptitude for learning new software programs and technology
  • Maintain confidentiality according to professional standards
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) Required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English/Spanish preferred
  • Ability to provide culturally relevant services
  • Value all people their family culture heritage language and beliefs

Licensure Registration Certification

  • First Aid/CPR certification required
  • Food Handlers Card required
  • Valid Washington State drivers license and minimum required liability insurance for WA State
  • Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities liability insurance provider

Employment is conditional upon:

  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required

Wage Range: $21 to $28 hourly depending on level of education and experience

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm
