Cloud Application and Platform Group is a cutting-edge research group from CCDS. It is a leading research group in the area of Cloud Media Computing Content Delivery Networks Data Center architecture and Big Data analytics.

Mission of the Cloud Application and Platform Group is to conduct innovative and fundamental research in applications and platforms for cloud computing and to practice a learning-based framework for system prototyping and performance optimization for large-scale networked computing systems. Vision of the lab is to incubate visionary technical leaders to drive future Information and Communication Technology (ICT) advances.

The College of Computing & Data Science (CCDS) invites applications for the position of Research Associate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new CFD solutions in partnership with our academic and technology partners;

  • Providing CFD technical leadership to new research programs;

  • Work closely with other team members to develop OpenFOAM methods processes and workflows;

  • Develop and implement mesh solver and post-processing methodologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our CFD tools and workflow;

  • Support and optimise CFD tools including monitoring and resolving issues;

  • Ensure that CFD simulations and analysis carried out within the department are aligned with the capability of the commercial tools;

  • Conduct research into and analysis the energy usage of different scenarios;

  • Write reports and mapping the total energy usage;

  • Publish papers and support documentation.

Job Requirements:

  • Preferably Master in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or Applied Physics from a recognized university;

  • Strong organisational and project skills;

  • Excellent team player and able to work effectively with other groups;

  • Practical experience in OpenFOAM development and/or in C language development in a CFD environment;

  • Good understanding of commercial CFD solvers (Fluent 6Sigma STAR-CCM etc.)

  • Experience with energy modelling or coding platforms including SketchUp EnergyPlus OpenStudio TRNSYS and Python;

  • Proven ability to work at a fast pace and to react rapidly to new information;

  • F1 experience would be advantageous but not essential;

  • Experience of Python C and Unix shell scripting would be advantageous.
