30% - Develop and implement outreach initiatives
30% - Build contact lists for networking and future projects
20% -Work closely with KASCs full-time Coordinator of Outreach and Communications to promote events
20% - Develop and maintain collections of pedagogical materials for K-12 visits educator workshops and public events

- Minimum GPA of 3.0 as evidenced by transcript(s).
- Have skill in website management and social media communication as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with Microsoft Word Suite including Word Excel and Outlook as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with creating promotional flyers.
- Strong written skills as evidenced by cover letter and writing sample.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Academic emphasis on African Studies or the African diaspora.
- Familiarity with an African Language other than English as evidenced by application materials.
- Demonstrated strong oral communication skills and ability to work effectively with the public.
- Familiarity with KU courses in African Studies and KUs Africanist faculty.
- Experience working with KU CMS websites Wordpress or other content-management systems as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience working in an office environment.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud Programs.
Position OverviewThe Kansas African Studies Center (KASC) Outreach & Communications Assistant will play a vital role in helping the Center promote understanding of African perspectives in K-12 educational spaces and support sustainable connections for African Studies on the campuses of our MSI and Community College partners.

Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are
not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
