Job/Department Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director of Design and Construction the Project Manager manages design and construction of complex capital construction projects for CSU Chico buildings and facilities. Construction projects have a high degree of diversity use innovative or advanced building design and construction require alternative often complex contracting methods and have other complicated construction features. Employee consults with Department and University executives to plan and define facility needs coordinate the budget and oversee the contract process from design through construction. Employee manages projects that incorporate complex design features unusual building materials and advanced building techniques. Projects present diversified and novel problems in which often established criteria and technical precedents frequently do not apply. Typically the employee cannot rely on precedent or standard data in making judgments and decisions.

The Project Manager carries out their work with considerable freedom frequently selecting the approach to resolve complex problems. The supervisor reviews work for adequacy in terms of meeting the broad technical objectives and for compliance with agency policies and regulations. The Project Manager is expected to independently render technical decisions or effectively recommend decisions to controversial issues that impact policy public relations or budgetary considerations.

Required Education and Experience:

Equivalent to a four year degree from a college or university with a major in Engineering Architecture Construction Management or closely related field

AND

Three years experience working in the construction industry or facilities management.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • CA Professional Engineering License
  • ACIA Construction Inspection Certification
  • PMP Certification
  • LEED AP Certification

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $47256 - $140436 per year. (Admin I)

Anticipated Hiring Range: Not expected to exceed $70000 - $85000per year. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

California State University Chico in accordance with CSU policy requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check sexual offender registry check and/or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. This position is a member of the campus Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process are not subject to probationary service and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore this is a designated position under the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. (Group/Category: Planning Design and Constructions - Assistant/Associate Vice President or Director/Manager/Project Manager/CAT-01 CAT-02 CAT-03)

A valid California Drivers License must be obtained within 60 days of employment and maintained throughout employment in this position as well as a successful completion and continued compliance of CSU Defensive Driving Course.

The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination.
