About the team

The Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS) Division aims to empower and support people affected by cancer so that no one needs to face cancer alone. This Division assists people as they navigate the cancer journey easing their emotional and practical burdens and helping them make informed decisions.

The CISS division has recently implemented a new operating model that is changing the way we approach the client experience. This new model puts the client at the centre of everything we do and aligns our vision purpose and values. This client-centred approach to providing information and services to people affected by cancer also flows across our community working at a local level on the ground focusing on understanding the communities insights and needs.

About the role:

Reporting to the Lead Community this role is responsible for identifying and engaging key community stakeholders to foster a conversation between communities and Cancer Council build sustainable relationships and improve cancer outcomes through the implementation of Information and Support Services prevention and advocacy.

This role requires excellent relationship management skills experience in community engagement and an ability to gather and use community insights data and public health information to improve cancer outcomes.

The Community Coordinator will work closely with the broader team to unite the community and build trust through our visible and relevant presence. This role is responsible for the delivery of two support services on the ground in Tamworth and surrounding areas. Additionally it includes managing a dedicated large team of valued volunteers.

This role is offered as a 12-month part-time contract based at our Tamworth office. The successful candidate will be required to work four days per week.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Identify build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders to effectively gather and utilise community insights to implement Cancer Council services and programs.
  • Deliver monitor report and contribute to the evaluation of Cancer Council programs and services with a client centric focus.
  • Collaborate with key community stakeholders to identify and address gaps in service provision and opportunities to improve cancer outcomes aligned to organisational strategy.
  • Recruit coach and manage volunteers to support Cancer Council in the implementation of services and programs
  • Inspire volunteers through recognition and learning and development opportunities.
  • Include supporters and key community stakeholders in Cancer Council engagement learning and development and fundraising initiatives.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with key roles across CISS and other divisions across the organisation
  • Collaborate with local team and key internal stakeholders to integrate impact of Cancer Council services and programs into fundraising initiatives including delivering events public speaking and community activations
  • Identify opportunities to respectfully capture and share stories of Cancer Council impact in local communities.
  • Perform specific operational tasks related to facilities management fleet management Work Health & Safety and/or risk & compliance as requested from time to time by the Finance Strategy & Operations & People & Communications Division to support the safe and efficient operation of the office location fleet vehicles and/or other assets or services.

About you

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in health public health or similar.
  • A sound understanding of relationship management community engagement and the ability to translate this into an achievable way of working.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and develop strong and effective relationships with health and community care professionals government and non-government organisations community groups and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the effects of cancer on individuals and families.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills including strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to take initiative bringing a positive and proactive attitude to every task.
  • Results driven purposeful and accountable.
  • Visible enthusiasm and passion for Cancer Council NSWs vision mission and values.
  • High level computer literacy in Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
  • Availability for and willingness to travel in and work with all communities across NSW.
  • Work flexible hours (including weekends and evenings).
  • Class C drivers license.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated understanding of working with priority populations.
  • Experience in developing the public profile of a community organisation/ program.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the charitable sector.
