Job Description

About the role:

We have an exciting permanent and 2-year fixed term contract opportunity for talented Specialists - Environment to join our highly skilled Environmental Approvals & Delivery team at Water these roles you will lead the delivery of environmental outcomes by providing expertise in environmental approvals under State and Commonwealth environmental legislation.

Youll be based in Leederville a lively suburb 5 minutes from Perths CBD. Theres plenty of places to eat and hang out and youre only 5 minutes away from the nearest train station an easy commute when youre heading into the office.

These roles will be reporting to the Team Lead Approvals & Delivery.

The role will involve:

  • Developing and implementing approvals strategies to secure project approvals under relevant State and Commonwealth legislation (e.g Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Parts IV and V) Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999).
  • Applying critical and strategic thinking skills to assess proposed approvals pathways to meet state development priorities.
  • Working with multidisciplinary project teams to de-risk environmental approvals through application of the mitigation hierarchy.
  • Developing of survey and environmental study scopes to support approvals procuring and managing consultants.
  • Interpreting survey findings and technical reports for integration into approval documents.
  • Collaborate with consultants technical specialists and internal teams to gather inputs and manage deliverables
  • Undertaking environmental impact assessment preparing and submitting environmental approvals under State and Commonwealth legislation
  • Engaging with regulators and other stakeholders including DWER DCCEEW DBCA and others to secure environmental approvals.
  • Providing leadership expert technical advice and reviewing policy and position statements including writing reviewing and updating protocols and supporting the development and provision of strategic advice on environmental issues and compliance.

Key skills and experience:

  • Degree level qualification in environmental science or related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in environmental impact assessment and approvals.
  • Considerable experience with processes under environmental legislation and their management in a large diverse commercial or regulatory organisation.
  • Considerable experience interacting with regulators stakeholders and interest groups.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge and skill identifying and obtaining environmental approvals to minimise business and compliance risks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in applying strategic thinking to solve complex problems.
  • Experience in delivering environmental approvals for marine projects (desirable not essential)
  • Ability to work autonomously and influence multidisciplinary teams to deliver positive environmental outcomes.
