Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Greenwich to assist with the appointment of a SEN Assessment & Review Officer on a 3-month contract likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 19.67 - 24.75 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • To work with parents carers children and young people to ensure that the needs assessment process is undertaken in a manner that is clear accessible and collaborative.
  • To work in partnership with schools providing advice direction and challenge in respect of the needs assessment and review process.
  • To write EHC plans in co-production with parents and children/ young people ensuring the range of relevant reports from professionals is considered and reflected in the plan and that it is fully compliant with the Code of Practice minimising the risk of legal challenge to the LA.
  • To support parents children and young people to develop aspirations and aspirational outcomes that informs plans.
  • To be responsible for negotiating with schools regarding the placement of pupils with EHC Plans.

Education and Knowledge:

  • Good general standard of education equivalent to A level including GCSE English.
  • Good knowledge of primary secondary or further education systems.
  • Good understanding of the principles underpinning the SEND reforms.
  • Knowledge of the the Education Act 1996 the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice 2015.

Experience Required:

  • Experience of SEND processes within a local authority.
  • Experience of drafting EHC Plans or statements of special educational needs.
  • Experience of working directly with educational establishments such as nurseries schools or colleges

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use word processing packages spreadsheets and databases to a high standard including database reporting tools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to a high standard verbally and in writing with parents young people schools professionals members of the public and other agencies.
  • Ability to initiate working in partnership with parents young people schools professionals and other agencies.
  • Good presentation negotiation and advisory skills
  • Understanding of and commitment to the councils equal opportunities policy
  • Ability to apply the equal opportunities policy within the post and SEND Assessment Service.

  • You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
  • You should have right to work in U.K
  • This role requires an Enhanced DBS
