POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Community Organizer Dekalb Water Watch

JOB CATEGORY: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

STATUS: Part-Time 20 hours per week

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Specific Term One Year

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Atlanta Economic Justice Program Director

REGION/UNIT: US/South Region

LOCATION: Atlanta GA US Hybrid. Occasional in-office meetings required.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

This position is designed to engage as the lead organizer on issues related to the Dekalb Water Watch campaign with the Atlanta Economic Justice Program (ATLEJ).

ATLEJ is looking to build a larger above ground base around the stop cop city movement which is a multi-issue movement that encompasses immigrant rights environmental justice militarization justice in Palestine criminal justice reform and housing justice. Connecting these threads and creating a pipeline for community members into the already existing work around these issues will build a more resilient community in a time of increased political repression.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Under the Supervision of AFSC Atlanta Program Director coordinate all aspects of AFSC involvement in the Dekalb Water Watch Campaign including outreach communications advocacy leadership development and reporting.
  • Facilitate internal and external communication with the Dekalb Water Watch coalition.
  • Lead resident outreach projects that ensure that the implementation of policy victories is successful and documented.
  • Coordinate with local press and create an archive of earned media. Share all earned media with AFSC communications.
  • Coordinate with AFSC Atlanta staff regularly and AFSC national staff when needed.
  • Use direct action and effective communications to shape public narratives draw in new members and build visibility.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY / MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree preferred. High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years of experience in coordinating communications outreach advocacy or organizing required.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and to travel as
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.

COMPENSATION

The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package. This position is Non-Exempt Salary Family: Program Job CodeProgram Associate 1 Minimum Hourly Rate $29.67 per hour. There are no medical dental or life insurance benefits short-term or long-term insurance benefits with this position. AFSC does participate in unemployment workers compensation and social security.
