Part Time Bus Monitor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age of 18
- Physical examinationmust be completed and a record submitted to the TransportationDirector prior to beginning work.
- Pre-employment Drug/Alcohol Screening
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
OVERVIEW OF JOB JOB DESCRIPTION: School BusMonitor performs supervisory work in overseeing the safety and comfort of students riding on a school bus. Assists the bus driver in maintaining a safe clean and orderly environment on board the school bus to and from home on a daily basis.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows local state and federal law and adheres to State Department of Education and local board policy.
- Maintains all requirements as outlined in the State Department of Education state 95-1.
- Assist the bus driver by maintaining a calm atmosphere and positive manner of discipline while students are aboard the bus.
- Helps provide the maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading
- Knowledgeable in the proper procedures for the emergency evacuation of the students aboard the bus.
- Maintain necessary records and forms as prescribed by the district.
- Able to operate a wheelchair lift repeatedly. Repetitious climbing in and out of a bus is required.
- Able to lift and maneuver a wheelchair dependent child.
- Able to secure a wheelchair which consists of strapping it down and locking it in place. This will require bending stretching and mechanical skills to operate safety equipment.
- Communicate with children and maintain control and give precise instructions.
- Communicate with administration/teachers/parents to discuss problems that arise on the bus.
- Assist students who become ill on the bus.
- Able to use a two-way radio to transmit and receive message in case of an emergency.
- Able to work in an environment with limited to moderate level of supervision. This requires the ability to handle the pressures in any given workday.
- Able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while concentrating on safety of children as well as their physical mental and emotional needs. (Special Needs Children)
- Able to tolerate diesel fuel fumes inclement weather odors and moderate dust conditions.

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annual in accordance with provisions of the Board of Educations policy on evaluation of non-certified personnel.
