Job Description

Position Title: Academic Support Specialist

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Reports To: Dean of Teaching & Learning

Schedule: One-year position only

Salary Range: $70000 - $90000 Depending on experience


San Francisco University High School seeks a reliable and detail-oriented individual to serve as an Academic Support Specialist in our Academic Office for the 2025-26 school year. We are looking for someone who can maintain a calm and focused testing environment for students including those requiring accommodations and who can work with students faculty and staff to ensure students are receiving appropriate and high-quality support.

Essential Functions:

  • Proctoring: Supervise and administer tests in accordance with established guidelines and accommodations ensuring a quiet and distraction-free testing environment.
  • Accommodations: Implement specific testing accommodations as outlined in students individualized plans (e.g. extended time separate testing location use of assistive technology).
  • Materials Management: Distribute collect and maintain test materials ensuring the security and confidentiality of all documents.
  • Time Management: Accurately track and manage testing time including start and end times and provide time updates to students as needed.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student attendance testing times and any observed irregularities or incidents.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with the Director of Learning Services and Dean of Teaching & Learning regarding testing schedules student needs and any issues that arise.
  • Assistive Technology: Assist students with the use of assistive technology during testing as needed (training will be provided).
  • Maintaining Confidentiality: Uphold strict confidentiality regarding student information and testing materials.
  • Adherence to Policy: Follow all school policies and procedures regarding testing administration and student accommodations.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to changes in testing schedules and student needs as required.
  • Learning Profiles: Closely read and follow any student learning curiosity about common learning differences (dyslexia ADHD Executive Functioning dyslexia Auditory Processing Disorder). Ensure the rights of students are observed and protected through the use of appropriate respectful communication with fairness and equity.
  • Student Support: Help students to build strong self-advocacy organization and study skills. Maintain appropriate relationships with the students by treating students in a respectful manner at all times eliciting students interest and cooperation within appropriate boundaries.

Other Functions:

  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of the testing environment.
  • Provide general support to the Learning Services Office as needed.
  • Attend training sessions on procedures and accommodations.
  • Follow the expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Teaching & Student Support Handbook.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • College diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a high school environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with common office software.
