Job Description
Primary Function: To facilitate organize and run a high school band in rehearsal performance finding appropriate literature and pedagogically advancing the ensemble as part of our existing team of other directors.
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum bachelors degree in Music Education (JX or JQ) or qualified music experience with valid substitute credentials.
Training and Experience:
- Previous experience in teaching band
- minimum completed teacher apprenticeship
- A high level of musicianship understanding of preadolescent and adolescent learning differences
- Highest level of integrity and professionalism both in and out of the classroom
- Understanding of a learning styles approach to instruction and a respect for students multiple intelligences
Demonstrated Technical Skills: High level musicianship and competency when running rehearsal
Human Relations Skills: Ability to work well with others in a diverse environment where positive relationships drive educational success.
Directly Responsible To:
- School administration and department chair
Assigned Responsibilities:
General:
- Rehearse high school band daily to push all students musically for performances and furthering their individual musicianship.
- Ability to plan prescriptively to meet the academic and behavioral needs of each student
- Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a music team and a multi-disciplinary team of professionals focused on student growth expression and achievement.
- Ability to nurture teenage leaders who will function well working with a variety of people both in and after high school
- One evening concert in December
Other Duties
- Potentially working with small groups or individuals in preparation for Solo & Ensemble
- Assisting in selection of repertoire for the December and mid-winter concert
