Homeland Security and Protective Services Instructor

The Williamsport Area School District is seeking a highly skilled professional to teach within the Williamsport Area High Schools Career & Technical Education (CTE) 43.9999: Homeland Security Law Enforcement Firefighting and Related Protective Services program. This full-time teaching position is effective immediately. Experience working with high school students and teaching in a CTE environment are preferred.

Qualifications To Include:

Evidence of a minimum of eight thousand (8000) hours equivalent to four (4) years full-time of wage-earning experience as a Police Officer OR EMT OR Fire fighter.

OR

Evidence of a minimum of four thousand (4000) hours equivalent to two (2) years full-time of wage-earning experience as a Police Officer OR EMT OR Fire fighter PLUS a baccalaureate degree.

OR

Evidence of a minimum of eight thousand (8000) hours equivalent to four (4) years full-time of experience as a VOLUNTEER firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

The successful candidate must be willing to earn a Vocational II teaching certificate and pass an Occupational Competency Assessment (OCA) as required by PDE.

Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Career and Technical Education teacher plans teaches and assesses the Career Education and Work Standards in alignment with the Pennsylvania Department of Educations CTE SOAR Program Task Grid. He/she will create a hands-on student-centered environment that encourages curiosity and learning; cultivates a growth mindset; encourages collaboration; and motivates students to develop the skills attitudes and knowledge needed to be post-secondary education and career ready. The Career and Technical Education Teacher will utilize all resources available to establish a cooperative relationship with parents staff members and administrators to support each students opportunity to learn and grow in educational and life experiences.

The position of the Career and Technical Education Teacher shall include active participation in the schools operation to support a positive learning environment. This position reports to and is evaluated annually by the CTE Administrator/Building Principal and/or his/her designee.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The requirements for this position include specific work experiences (type and timeframes mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education) related to the applicable Career and Technical Education PDE approved program and appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Vocational certification.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The Career and Technical Education Teacher will demonstrate proficiency with the applicable Career and Technical Education PDE-approved program including Curriculum Benchmarks PA Core Standards and appropriate assessments. He/she will strengthen his/her abilities by reviewing innovative programs supported by best practice and research.

The Career and Technical Education Teacher must be able to articulate the school and district goals regarding the program to staff students parents and community members. He/she will possess the knowledge pedagogical abilities and attitudes necessary to be a successful scholar decision maker and agent for curriculum enhancement and change. He/she must be comfortable using computer and technological applications to include e-mail and Microsoft 365 applications; 3-D printers and software; video photography and editing tools and technology/materials which continue to emerge and change throughout the 21st addition he/she will be proficient regarding the use of specialized computer software and programs associated with their specific area of assignment within the Career and Technical Education program.

AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES ((E) Designates Essential Functions):

  1. Teaches skills and knowledge in the applicable PDE-Approved career and technical program providing instruction and hands-on learning experiences that allow students to apply these academics to real-world problems. (E)
  2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws regulations and District policies. (E)
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of Career Education Work Standards. (E)
  4. Meets/Maintains applicable Vocational Education requirements (E)
  5. Develops clear and appropriate lesson plans and identifies instructional materials on a weekly basis (minimum). Demonstrates proper use of materials equipment tools and processes using standard or teaching-prepared models mock-ups sketches or other appropriate industrial aides. (E)
  6. Provides individualized and small group instruction (as necessary) to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Determines the appropriate pace for instruction related to students abilities and explains material and subject content to students and parents. Differentiates instruction for students based upon need and works with students and other teachers in inclusive settings.
  7. Provides instruction to students monitors procedures regarding protection use care and safe operations of tools machines and equipment. (E)
  8. Supports the establishment and delivery of Dual Enrollment learning experiences that enhance the Program of Study. (E)
  9. Establishes and maintains standards of behavior in the classroom and throughout the school to achieve a positive and functional learning atmosphere for students. (E)
  10. Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records prepares student progress reports and provides accurate and constructive feedback to students and parents (as necessary). (E)
  11. Uses data to improve the learning and instruction process. (E)
  12. Cooperates with other professional staff members to identify student needs and develop assessments to solve health attitude and learning problems. (E)
  13. Participates in the selection of instructional materials. (E)
  14. Maintains accurate inventory records of equipment and program materials and monitors condition and maintenance of equipment and program materials recommending adjustment and service as necessary. (E)
  15. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. (E)
  16. Participates in curriculum development programs. (E)
  17. Participates in faculty committees meetings and other faculty sponsored programs that support the educational program. (E)
  18. Participates in clubs (CTSOs) related to the School and Career and Technical Education Program e.g. SkillsUSA Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
  19. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with District regulations. (E)
  20. Maintains professional competence through District sponsored professional development programs and approved professional development activities. (E)
  21. Demonstrates regular and timely attendance. (E)
  22. Is able to speak and write in a clear concise manner. (E)
  23. Is able to move throughout the building (all floors) and school grounds as necessary. (E)
  24. Is able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. (E)
  25. Collaborates and cooperates with other professional staff members and administrators in facilitating the delivery of educational programs such as art ESL music physical education remedial and gifted programs. (E)
  26. Follows all Board policies and building procedures and submits required information and reports with identified timelines. (E)
  27. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the CTE Administrator/Building Principal Superintendent or his/her designee.
