Position Overview:
The Development Events Manager will report to the Director of Development and work closely with the Chief Development Officer. The Development Events Manager will be responsible for planning organizing and executing a range of events that support our mission and fundraising goals. This includes our existing events as well as designing and implementing new events to provide additional opportunities for engagement and fundraising. This role requires a proactive individual with extremely strong organizational and communication skills a flair for creativity experience with fundraising and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate will have experience in event planning and management be skilled at developing and executing event fundraising strategy a commitment to social justice and a knack for building relationships within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fundraising
- Design and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies for events to maximize revenue and deepen donor engagement.
- Work closely with the Corporate Relations Manager to identify cultivate and secure event sponsorships from corporate partners local businesses and individual donors.
- Lead efforts to drive ticket sales and event attendance including creating marketing plans in collaboration with the Communications Manager.
- Plan and execute onsite fundraising activities such as paddle raises live auctions and donation campaigns to inspire giving during events.
- Develop creative concepts and donor stewardship opportunities to encourage repeat giving and long-term partnerships.
- Analyze past event performance and donor data to inform strategy set fundraising goals and measure success.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Development to ensure fundraising goals are aligned with organizational priorities and annual revenue targets.
- Budget and Data Management:
- Work closely with leadership to create and manage event budgets ensuring cost-effective and efficient use of resources.
- Track and report on event performance metrics including financial outcomes and participant feedback.
- Ensure the careful tracking of event information such as RSVPs and other guest data
- Event Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive event strategy that aligns with the organizations goals and mission driving revenue awareness engagement and connection. This includes adding new events to our current annual calendar.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors including event consultants in some cases to ensure seamless event execution.
- Oversee event logistics including venue selection catering audio-visual requirements design elements and more.
- Plan coordinate and manage all aspects of events including:
- Spring Benefit (gala-style event) Raise approximately $1 million annually through sponsorships ticket sales paddle raises and live auction. Oversee venue selection program development vendor coordination and donor stewardship to deliver a memorable and mission-driven evening.
- Families for Families (fall event)- where children and parents come together for an afternoon of service learning smaller program-focused events community outreach events donor appreciation functions and more with a fundraising goal of approximately $20000
- 2 Program-focused events throughout the year including a preschool graduation and carnival
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners sponsors volunteers and other stakeholders.
- Engage with attendees and participants to foster a positive experience and strengthen support for the organization.
- Team Collaboration and Leadership:
- Lead and support event staff and volunteers providing staff plans guidance and direction to ensure successful event outcomes.
- Coordinate with various departments to align event activities with organizational goals and priorities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in event planning and management within a nonprofit or social services setting.
- Proven track record of successful event execution including fundraising events and community outreach.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Google suite Salesforce (or comparable CRM) and event management platforms.
- Passion for social justice and a commitment to the mission and work of Compass Family Services.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for events.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity inclusion and belonging.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: $78000-$81000 annually (exempt)
- Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year 5 in your second. Also paid holidays sick time family leave.
- Insurance: health dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
- Retirement: after one year of work Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-6.
- Membership in OPEIU/Local 29 union

- Office location: 37 Grove St. less than a block from Civic Center BART/MUNI station.
- This is an on-site role. After the first three months employee may be able to work remotely one day per week pending manager approval.
