SASRI a division of the South African Sugar Association is seeking a highly qualified Senior Sugarcane Physiologist with a PhD in Plant Physiology Agronomy or a related field based in Mount Edgeccombe.
This role would lead innovative research in sugarcane physiology with focus on chemical ripening and other methods (e.g. drying off) of cane quality management; and the assessment (e.g. with remote sensing technologies) of sugarcane quality for enabling informed ripening and harvest decisionmaking.
The incumbent will also participate in research leading to sustainable sugarcane management practices for improved resource use efficiency and resilience to abiotic stress. This role requires independent research leadership strong project management and stakeholder engagement to ensure effective knowledge exchange with the industry.
