Job Description

We are a Berlin-based B2C fintech operating in stealth founded by two repeat founders (YC alum exit) with prior 10 year careers in investment banking and strategy consulting respectively. We recently raised a 3m pre-seed round and are now assembling a small exceptionally strong core team.

Tasks

As our first dedicated Engineering Leader you will own the endtoend technology functionfrom architecture and technical roadmap to delivery reliability and security. Youll take the product from 01 (MVP) to 1n (scale) set the engineering bar and be a critical partner on product strategy and iteration.

What youll do

  • Translate product vision into a technical roadmap with clear milestones resourcing and KPIs.
  • Design the initial architecture & data model choose the stack and set SLAs/SLOs for availability performance and cost.
  • Ship hands-on: write code review PRs establish our SDLC CI/CD IaC and observability/alerting from day one.
  • Own reliability & security: implement best practices for privacy compliance and risk management (e.g. GDPR KYC/AMLfintech experience a plus).
  • Enable fast experimentation by instrumenting analytics event pipelines and A/B testing infrastructure.
  • Build and lead a lean high-performing engineering team (hiring coaching and setting the culture).
  • Collaborate tightly with Product Design and Growth to turn insights into product improvements and scalable systems.
  • Manage technical debt deliberatelybalancing speed today with long-term maintainability.

Requirements

  • Youve previously built and scaled a product/platform endtoend as a founding engineer or early engineering leader.
  • Deep hands-on expertise across backend systems APIs cloud infrastructure data pipelines and CI/CD tooling.
  • Strong systems design & architectural judgment for reliable secure and maintainable systems (not necessarily hightraffic).
  • Analytical rigor and fluency with product/engineering metrics experimentation frameworks and observability/instrumentation.
  • A product mindset and founder-like ownershipcomfortable with ambiguity and biased toward action.
  • (Nice to have) Experience in fintech or other regulated environments (security compliance payments KYC/AML).

What success looks like

  • MVP shipped on time with a secure observable and extensible architecture.
  • Predictable delivery velocity and a transparent roadmap tied to business KPIs.
  • Best-in-class reliability (e.g. agreed SLOs low incident rate fast MTTR) and a mature on-call/runbook setup.
  • Data-driven experimentation platform that shortens the learnbuildmeasure cycle.
  • A small high-calibre engineering team operating with strong code quality testing and review practices.
