A Cath Lab Technician also known as a Cardiac Catheterization Technologist has a variety of responsibilities and qualifications. Here are some key points:
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care to individuals with implanted cardiac devices.
- Provides diagnostic evaluation of patients cardiac rhythm.
- Assists in triple lumen catheter placement.
- Performs lab administrative duties and supply inventory.
- Participates in an environment that ensures quality work group morale and maintains effective lines of communication.
- Assists physicians in cases of adverse reaction or in acute emergencies as necessary.
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency codes location of emergency equipment and method of activation.
The Cath Lab Technician may also assist the Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist with providing cardiac patient care.
They perform diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations and other related procedures.
They also insert small catheters through a needle into the blood vessels and into the heart so that X-rays angiograms and other recordings can be taken to determine the hearts structure and function.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate and Bachelors Degree in Science Cardiovascular Technology Technical Nursing Health Natural Science Engineering Associates Graduate Radiology.
- Licensing or Certifications: ACLS BLSRCISARRTCPR EKG IABP PALS.
- Skills: Principles of radiographic imaging cardiac anatomy & physiology patient physiologic monitoring and cardiac arrhythmias recognition human growth and development proper sterile technique.
