Any equivalent combination of education training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities is qualifying. At the time of hire the city requires all employees to have an Arizona Drivers license and an acceptable (39 month minimum) driving record per practice by risk management. An MVR will be run by the city if a conditional offer is extended.
*Unacceptable Driving Record Criteria:
1 or more major convictions in 39 months; or 4 or more minor convictions in 39 months or 3 or more MVR at-fault vehicle accidents in 39 months or Combination of minor convictions and MVR at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more in 39 months.

Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) Preference Points
Read the eligibility criteria regarding ARS 38-492sections A B C D E on the ARS 38-492 web page :
To receive consideration forARS preference points after receiving a passing score upload acceptable and valid documentation showing necessary information (name etc.) with this city application (PDF preferred).

Selection Process for All Candidates
Candidates whose information testing training education knowledge skills abilities and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in the next steps of the process. The Fire Chief has final selection authority after reviewing all process information. Human Resources and the Fire Department reserve the right to terminate or extend the life of a process or an eligibility list at any time.
Successful candidates must pass the conditional hiring process which includes but is not limited to post offer: Department of Public Safety and FBI background check fingerprint MVR alcohol/drug testing employer reference check and a medical physical administered by a Glendale Fire Department authorized physician.
All selected candidates will begin at the Firefighter Trainee designation and must successfully complete the assigned academy (Glendale firefighter trainee academy or advanced academys; Career Firefighter Transition or Career FirefighterBridge) to become a Glendale Firefighter. Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as a commitment to serving others are important.
Career Firefighter Transition or Bridge Advanced Academy - only if selected and qualified
Candidates who wish to be considered and qualify for the advanced academies must meet the additional listed criteria including but not limited to the below requirements. Eligibility for each academy is determined by the Fire Department. Clearly document employment experience and upload required certifications relevant to training education and follow directions as requested.
Advanced Career Firefighter Transition and Bridge academy consideration require:
Required Work Schedule
24 hours on and 48 hours off unless assigned to temporary 40-hour assignments. The schedule is continuous rolling schedule and includes holidays andweekends if your shift falls on these days.
Working Conditions
Require working in heavy traffic in confined cramped areas at considerable heights and under stressful situations with exposure to extreme heat adverseweather conditions hazardous materials and contagious diseases. Work requires intense concentration sustained physical activity intense concentrationheavy lifting and climbing.
