Piping Fabrication Representative

Description:
We are seeking an experienced piping fabrication shop inspector/representative to be resident in a piping subcontractors fabrication workshop during the fabrication phase to oversee piping fabrication work being carried out for our EPCM project
This role is critical for ensuring efficient delivery to plan of fabricated piping by resolving technical issues and problems at source whilst overseeing that activities are executed safely efficiently and in accordance with project specifications and timelines.
This role is site-based at the pipework fabrication shop in Ellesmere Port. The ideal candidate will preferably reside in the area (or surrounds) and able to travel to this site daily.
Responsibilities:
Quality Control and Assurance
- Ensure that all piping fabrication processes meet project specifications standards and applicable codes.
- Conduct routine inspections and quality audits to verify adherence to welding procedures dimensional accuracy and material traceability.
- Review Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and other quality documentation.
- Oversee subcontractors quality control processes including NDT hydrostatic testing and any other required inspections.
Project Coordination and Progress Monitoring
- Monitor daily weekly and monthly fabrication schedules and report progress to the EPCM project team.
- Track material availability resource allocation and any factors impacting schedule adherence.
- Ensure effective coordination between the subcontractors team and EPCMs project management engineering and quality teams.
- Identify potential delays and work with the subcontractor to mitigate schedule risks.
Technical Support and Issue Resolution
- Interpret and clarify project technical requirements including isometric drawings weld maps and fabrication specifications.
- Assist the subcontractor in resolving technical issues such as weld repairs material substitutions and design modifications in consultation with EPCM engineering as required.
- Review and approve piping spools and assemblies to confirm compliance with project standards.
Safety Compliance and Oversight
- Enforce adherence to EPCM and client safety protocols and promote a safe working environment within the fabrication shop.
- Conduct regular safety audits and participate in safety meetings to promote and address safety practices.
- Ensure that subcontractor personnel are trained and comply with the safety requirements relevant to the project.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed records of all activities including daily logs inspection records weld logs and non-compliance reports.
- Track and document progress on fabrication and welding including status updates for piping spools and assemblies.
- Prepare and submit routine progress and quality reports to the EPCM project team including details on any corrective actions or areas of concern.
Stakeholder and Communication Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact between EPCM the client and the subcontractors team within the fabrication shop.
- Communicate EPCM and client expectations and requirements to the subcontractor and ensure alignment on project goals.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates to EPCM and client representatives regarding fabrication progress quality issues and schedule adherence.
Compliance with Standards and Specifications
- Ensure that all work performed complies with applicable standards such as ASME API and other industry or client-specific codes.
- Verify that subcontractor personnel have the necessary qualifications and certifications to perform tasks as per project standards.
- Conduct spot checks on materials and processes to verify compliance with fabrication specifications.
Change Management and Control
- Identify any deviations from original project plans including design changes or modifications to fabrication procedures.
- Support change management processes by documenting and coordinating approvals for deviations with EPCM project management.
- Ensure that all changes are implemented in line with approved project standards and track the impacts on schedule and cost.
Support Final Handover and Documentation
- Oversee the completion of final inspection activities and ensure that documentation such as as-built drawings and weld maps are accurate and complete.
- Assist with preparing the final turnover package including quality documentation inspection reports and compliance certificates.
- Facilitate a smooth handover process to the construction or installation team.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of piping fabrication processes codes and standards.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for effective coordination with the subcontractor and other stakeholders.
- Proactive problem-solving abilities to address fabrication scheduling and quality issues.
- Strong organisational skills to manage documentation inspection records and reporting.
