In this exciting role as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer Operations Lead you will have responsibility for supporting the manufacture of high-quality batteries used in implantable medical devices including pacemakers and deep stimulators. Medtronics Energy & Component Center (MECC) in Brooklyn Center supports the design development and production of components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses.

In this role you will support new product development and capacity expansion projects as an Operations Lead Engineer. Key responsibilities include gathering stakeholder feedback to be an effective Voice of the Customer on new projects designing lean manufacturing lines and collaborating between New Product Development and Operations teams to solve problems effectively.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops longterm strategies for Connectors manufacturing at Medtronic
  • Leads manufacturing capacity analyses to guide business decisions
  • Collaborates with New Product Development teams to incorporate manufacturability in new product and process designs
  • Designs capable manufacturing lines and coordinates with Operations team to develop efficient manufacturing flows
  • Leads hypercare of new manufacturing lines with cross-functional teams
  • Designs manufacturing processes procedures and production layouts for assemblies equipment installation processing machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery equipment and tools to verify their efficiency and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in operations manufacturing or new product development.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage stakeholders across cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority especially within a matrix organization.
  • DRM (Design for Reliability and Manufacturability) or Lean certifications are a plus.
  • Background in project management particularly in manufacturing or operations.
  • Familiarity with the medical device industry and its regulatory environment.
  • Experience collaborating with regulatory groups and working independently with limited oversight.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$120800.00 - $181200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience certification/education market conditions and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
