The Senior Construction Manager oversees company projects during construction and commissioning phase of projects. The Senior Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring construction subcontractors are executing the work in accordance with safety quality reporting contract standards change management risk management and schedule requirements. They are also responsible for proper communications with the project team and the project stakeholders. This includes standardized reporting and conducting appropriate construction meetings. The Senior Construction Manager also oversees and directs junior level construction managers.
Essential Duties:
Project Setup
- Performs Project Setup.
- Reviews the project drawings project scope subcontractor scopes and overall project schedule.
- Orders site office supplies IT equipment internet services facilities and sets up local vendors.
- Conducts constructability review of project design documents contract review and schedule review for scope completeness to identify and communicate project risk.
Site Setup
- Facilitates the setup of office trailers laydown areas electrical hookups and permits.
- Develops EAP and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) with Safety Manager and third parties.
- Submits work plans traffic plans and project outages to the client for review.
- Obtains permits for any of the plans that require them.
Construction Activities:
- Reports to Project Manager and client.
- Oversees and/or directs construction projects to completion.
- Meets contractual conditions of performance.
- Oversees all construction scopes to verify compliance with drawings safety and quality.
- Verifies revisions or changes to existing drawings (maintains the most recent revision).
- Coordinates required changes with Project Engineers.
- Coordinates project subcontractors scopes of work to maintain continuous flow of the project and avoid delays caused by other subcontractors scopes of work (3 week look ahead).
- Establishes risk factors to the construction process. Manages and mitigates risk factors to ensure construction schedule while maintaining quality.
- Oversees the execution of the work by junior level construction managers and provide coaching and mentoring.
Materials and Equipment
- Performs material and equipment receiving and tracking.
- Verifies materials for the scope on site.
Reports
- Prepares internal and external reports pertaining to job status safety and quality.
- Provides quality reports during and after installation of an activity.
Education Experience Skills and License Requirements:
- Associates degree in Construction Management or similar field required
- 2 years of experience in addition to experience requirements acceptable in lieu of education requirements
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management or similar field preferred
- 10 years of experience in power utility construction management in the fields of Transmission Distribution Substation Testing and Commissioning Engineering.
- Ability to manage or work on multiple work fronts and tasks at one time. Ability to meet deadlines prioritize the work and work independently while producing quality work.
Ability to professionally interface verbally with internal and external stakeholders
