TITLE: Chicago Campus Peer LEADer DEPARTMENT: Chicago Campus FLSA STATUS: Hourly REPORTS TO:Director of Student Success HOURLY RATE:16.60/Hour AVAILABLE TO:Chicago Campus Students Position Overview The Peer LEADer program at Dominican Universitys Chicago Campus provides holistic culturally responsive support to students as they navigate their academic and personal journeys. Rooted in the LEAD modelLearn Engage Advise and DevelopPeer LEADers serve as mentors and ambassadors of student success particularly for first-generation low-income students of color pursuing associate degrees in a cohort-based model. Peer LEADers are vital in creating a welcoming affirming and empowering campus environment. They work closely with staff in the areas of academic advising first-year experience and student success to connect students to resources support their transitions and help them thrive academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities - Support students with academic planning registration and understanding course and degree requirements
- Serve as a peer mentor for students
- Meet regularly with students to check in on academic progress offer guidance and connect them to campus and community-based resources
- Promote positive transition experiences for new students and foster a strong sense of belonging on campus
- Assist with first-year programming
- Provide administrative support to the Student Success team
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to address student needs and support academic persistence
- Model professionalism and uphold Dominicans student code of conduct
- Refer students to appropriate on- and off-campus supports including mental health wellness and career resources
- Attend regular training sessions and monthly check-ins throughout the fall and spring semesters
Qualifications - Must be a registered student at Dominican University
- Minimum 2.3 GPA required
- Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills
- A commitment to equity and the ability to support diverse student populations
- Organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple responsibilities
- Passion for mentorship social justice and student success
Benefits - $16.60/hr: Approximately 610 hours per week
