Job Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Laboratory Informatics the Laboratory Informatics Analyst Sr. works with laboratory managers and subject matter experts to document and support optimal data practices within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Coordinates information system best practices between laboratory operations personnel and information management personnel. Efficiently translates laboratory priorities and initiatives to inter-departmental support resources. Develops and maintains laboratory rules and logic within information systems mainly middleware. Assists with laboratory information system project implementations including process mapping testing scoping and operational support planning. Performs data mining and translations as needed. Assists with report building as needed.

Job Responsibilities:
Practices the informatics process through daily responsibilities defines and reduces complex problems formulates models and algorithms develops information systems models deploys solutions and assesses the impact of these proposals.
Develops and implements laboratory information technologies systems and products. Maintains documentation of system configurations. Provides non-Sunquest/EPIC laboratory application implementation support technical guidance and assists for all issues regarding assigned applications. Evaluates system utilization and performance. Participates in system optimization. Assists with the optimization of the performance evaluation and testing upgrades of existing technologies/systems.
Works collaboratively with end-users to understand workflows and develop system support including analysis of business needs and user needs translation into proper system requirement specifications and documentation of requirements. Participates in completion of user documentation and training procedures. Coordinates and assists in the orientation and training of staff to technology systems including the development of training materials training schedule and competency exam.
Serves as a laboratory project resource in the identification selection and operational management of laboratory information technologies systems and products that utilize patient and client data to support laboratory practice activities ensuring compliance with IM policies at all times. Develops and monitors testing scenarios and methodologies to demonstrate system effectiveness. Prepares and maintains documentation on testing plans.
Works with clinical laboratory information management and data analytics/reporting leadership to conceptualize and implement optimal reporting and laboratory informatics processes for best practice and decision support; this can include data mining data translation report development and data visualizations (Epic Reporting Workbench Clarity Reports Radar Dashboards Application Reports Microsoft Business Intelligence Tools Microsoft SharePoint Power BI SSRS etc.).
Keeps current with new standards. Ensures compliance with CLIA/CAP requirements. Adheres to HIPAA regulations for transactions security and confidentiality.
Demonstrates excellent facilitation skills as well as analytical written and oral communication skills. Determines appropriate course of action in complex situations. Enhances the knowledge base and mentors junior staff members of the laboratory informatics section related to job functions.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients families co-workers and others.
Attends and participates in internal or external user groups and professional organizations to enhance professional knowledge.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in information technology Clinical Informatics or relevant science field with related training . Postgraduate degree in the same fields is also acceptable. Additional postgraduate training is desirable.
Minimum three years of experience installing/supporting applications and systems analysis/design and integration/design in a healthcare setting .
Experience and familiarity with at least one of the following aspects of clinical informatics and/or information technology project management:
Thoroughly understands and differentiates basic and translational informatics.
Distinguishes various healthcare technology systems; executive business operational clinical etc.
Comprehends the information technology project life cycle in its entirety.
Identifies appropriate resources for all aspects of healthcare information system builds and maintenance.
Working knowledge of various types of interfaces databases and server infrastructures.
Understands medical terminology as applicable to job functions.
Preferences:
Minimum 1 year experience developing dashboards or reports with Epic reporting tools such as Reporting Workbench Clarity Reports Radar Dashboards or Application Reports; development with source data from Epic Beaker highly desirable.
Clinical laboratory or clinical pathology experience preferred.
Experience with information systems within the clinical laboratory and/or electronic health record is desirable.
Experience and demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following is desirable:
Scripting languages (e.g. PERL SQL Python HTML/CSS Java).
Product Development Certification (e.g. PDMA AIPMM).
Business Analysis Certification (e.g. CCBA CBAP).
Operational Development Methodologies Certification (e.g. Agile PMI-ACP Scrum CSM).
Experience developing and implementing clinical informatics processes specifically report building and/or customization of data flows (e.g. hard stops alerts best practices bedside support) is desirable.
