Job Description

Type of Appointment: Part-Time (20 hours per week) Long-Term Temporary (1-year Appointment)

Job Classification: Student Services Professional IB

Anticipated Hiring Range: $2241 per month (Based on a full-time rate of $4482 per month)

Work Hours: This is a part-time live-on campus position. Typical work hours are Monday Friday from 8:00 am 12:00 pm dependent on operational need including some evenings weekends and holidays (On-Call).

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Residence Life Team (RLT) is responsible for development and delivery of services and programs in a residential experience that ensures the quality of life well-being and personal development of residential students contributing to retention and academic success. This unit is responsible for establishing policy and procedure in the residential facilities individual contact with residents advising and facilitating student government administering conduct intervening in crisis developing educational and programmatic efforts and coordinating the safety and security of residents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Development:

  • Support with the guidance of the Front Desk Attendants (FDA) Resident Advisors (RA) and Event Leads (ELs) in the daily operations and emergency interventions of residential communities.
  • Assist Coordinators with student success support services and programs that strive to reduce the achievement gap and increase retention and graduation rates of CPP students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with residents.
  • Utilizes skills to encourage student success within the portfolio through programs role modeling with students and staff.
  • Support administrative operations of the department including room assignments occupancy reports resident check-in/check-out room changes work requests equipment check-out etc.
  • Climbing of stairs (some residence halls do not have elevators) for emergency and crisis response.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of and enforces University policy UHS policy and UHS Housing License Agreement for residential students.

Residential Education Initiatives:

  • Assist Resident Advisors and EventLeads with program development planning and implementation.
  • Assists with annual selection processes Resident Advisors and Event Leads.
  • Assist with educational campaigns programming trainings and workshops for the residential community.
  • Network and collaborate with campus departments to develop design and implement programs which will facilitate opportunities for interaction and dialogue with the campus community on student engagement leadership sense of belonging equity diversity and inclusion.
  • Responsible for understanding the expectations of professional staff student leaders front desk attendants elected members of individual hall councils for each building/community Resident Student Association (RSA) National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and residential students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or a jobrelated field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis.
  • Driver License Valid and in State
  • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one (1) year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level jobrelated education may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Knowledge and Abilities: Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned. Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty CSU administrators student organizations and other private and public agencies.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Enrollment in a Higher Education/Students Affairs Masters program (or related field) is preferred and knowledge of diverse populations.

CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the Academic Professionals of California (APC) bargaining unit 4. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum$4482 and maximum$6342 per month. Please refer to the anticipated hiring range for the appropriate salary rate for this particular position.

University Driving Requirements

Positions that require driving for university business by using apersonal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1. Have a valid California or other State Drivers license. 2. Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof) 3. Not have more than 3 DMV Points if their license is Class C or 4. Not have more than 5 DMV Points if their license is Class A B or C with endorsements.
