Job Description

Transylvania University () a top-tier independent residential liberal arts college in Lexington Kentucky invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Psychology. This is a tenure-track position teaching in-person classes beginning August 27 2026. Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have expertise in Clinical Counseling or School Psychology including empirical work. Applicants with an interest in mental health/therapy among marginalized populations are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will teach Psychopathology Theories of Psychotherapy and Theories of Personality as well as specialized topics within their area of specialty. Contributions to teaching core classes such as General Psychology Statistics/Methods and Senior Seminar are expected along with occasional supervision of community internships and independent research. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about attracting teaching and mentoring historically underrepresented groups in Psychology. Occasional contributions to First-Year programing and service as an academic adviser are also expected. The teaching load consists of three courses per semester plus one short-term course in May (3-3-1) that offers additional opportunities for travel courses team-taught courses and other more experimental classroom endeavors. Other responsibilities include academic scholarship/professional activity preferably involving undergraduate students and service to the university through various committee appointments. The university has an excellent faculty development program that competitively funds faculty (and student) scholarly projects and support to develop and maintain a private practice can be available if desired.

Qualifications:

A terminal degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) is required by the start will be given to candidates with undergraduate teaching experience particularly within the context of candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continuing their own professional work along with a commitment to teaching interdisciplinary dialogue and working collaboratively with other faculty and with students both within the Psychology Program and across disciplines within a liberal arts environment.
