You must be a current employee of the Industrial Commission of Arizona in order to apply.
This position is responsible for the daily operation and oversight of the agencys internal occupational safety and health program to prevent injury occupational illness damage to property by developing and conducting training assisting with inspections and drills facilitate committee meetings and promote a positive safety culture by fostering employee engagement.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.
Maintain the safety and health programs documentation and draft standard work for safety processes. Maintain records and a database of employee training licenses and certifications. Research and implement applicable administrative and regulatory requirements and other health and safety laws regulations and standards.
Develop safety trainings schedule outside trainings and provide internal trainings related to safety/health. Assist with emergency and fire evacuation drills and agency continuity of operational planning.
Maintain agency Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification conduct annual recertification process schedule annual building audits to track VPP compliance and prepare for recertification audits. Assist in assessing facility and site inspections.
Assist with conducting investigations into occupational safety and health complaints and work-related accidents. Develop reports complete forms of inspections and investigations and propose solutions for preventive and corrective actions in conjunction with agency facility staff.
Conduct ergonomic evaluations and propose recommendations for corrective actions. Assist with job hazard analysis (JHA) and other evaluations to identify hazards and potential risks.
Knowledge of procedures and techniques with managing and overseeing an occupational safety and health program.
Knowledge of federal and state occupational safety and health standards applicable to public establishments.
Knowledge of federal OSHA standards ADOSH policies and procedures VPP and Arizona administrative practices and requirements is preferred.
Knowledge of the ICA policies procedures and practices is preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Adobe Acrobat and Google programs.
Skills in effective written and oral communication.
Skills is assessing work situations and rendering appropriate problem solving techniques.
Skills in developing and implementing training.
Skills in interpreting and applying laws rules and agency procedures.
Skill in developing technical reports and spreadsheets.
Basic computer skills.
Skill in public speaking is preferred.

Ability to solve complex problems and analyze issues.
Ability to mediate negotiate and facilitate resolution of projects problems or issues.

Ability to develop and recommend policies and procedures for continual process improvement.
Ability to assemble and interpret statistical data; to prepare reports and manuals; interpret and summarize technical and/ or complex information.
Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Bachelors degree in safety engineering occupational health environmental health industrial engineering or a closely related field and/or 3-5 years of experience in safety accident prevention environmental health industrial hygiene or occupational risk management.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate Arizona drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).

This position may offer the ability to work a hybrid remote work schedule (1 or more days per week) based upon the departments business needs and meeting of expected performance measures.

You will be eligible to participate in the state employee health/disability insurance plan and you are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). ASRS participation may begin immediately or upon your 27th week of employment. Contributions are matched by the employer.
