Job Summary

This is a remote position.

Lyceum College is seeking experienced and academically sound individuals to serve as sessional lecturers (module leaders) under our Bachelor of Disaster and Safety Management qualification. The Module Leader plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective delivery quality and continuous enhancement of a designated module. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the modules academic delivery including curriculum design teaching assessment marking moderation and student support while maintaining alignment with programme objectives institutional goals and regulatory standards.

The Module Leader contributes to a high-quality and engaging student learning experience by promoting academic excellence innovation and relevance within their discipline. The role encompasses academic instruction assessment development and quality assurance curriculum review and the integration of feedback to support continuous improvement.

In fulfilling these responsibilities the Module Leader ensures that all teaching learning and assessment practices comply with the standards of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and other applicable institutional and professional frameworks.

Subject Areas

5. Disaster Management

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality teaching learning and assessment in the assigned module.

Develop and update engaging industry-relevant learning materials aligned with programme and institutional goals.

Set mark and moderate formative and summative assessments in line with NQF and institutional standards.

Ensure module delivery and assessment comply with regulatory and institutional quality assurance frameworks.

Monitor student progress identify at-risk students and implement academic support interventions.

Provide academic guidance mentorship and feedback to students to enhance learning outcomes.

Participate in curriculum design review and enhancement processes.

Engage in academic governance activities including quality assurance and programme review committees.

Collaborate with the Programme Coordinator and faculty teams to drive academic excellence and continuous improvement.

Maintain accurate records and contribute to institutional reporting and compliance requirements.



Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

Strong subject-matter expertise and ability to integrate theory with practical application.

Excellent teaching facilitation and presentation skills suited to distance and blended learning.

Competence in curriculum development assessment design marking and moderation.

Sound understanding of higher education regulatory frameworks and quality assurance principles.

Proficiency in using digital learning platforms and online teaching tools.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to academic rigour.

Excellent communication interpersonal and student-engagement abilities.

Capacity to identify and support at-risk students through targeted interventions.

Effective time management organisational and administrative skills.

Commitment to academic integrity professionalism and continuous improvement.

Ability to work collaboratively within academic teams and contribute to governance structures.

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant Masters degree in the relevant field of expertise (essential)
  • At least 2 years experience in teaching curriculum development or instructional design in higher education
  • Demonstrable experience in developing study materials or assessments
  • Familiarity with the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework (HEQSF) and Council on Higher Education (CHE) standards
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and accept revisions where required
  • Computer literacy and access to your own laptop/desktop and internet

Added Advantage

  • Doctorate in the relevant field or working towards one
  • Experience in distance education institutions
  • Previous work with private higher education institutions
