Job Summary
This is a Community Service Work Study student employment position. Applicants must have Federal Work Study funds in their Financial Aid package. This internship is with the City of Portland within the Public Works Service Area specifically in the Records Management Group of the Office of Real Estate Services. The Digital Archival Internship will involve managing a large volume of digitized historical records. The historical records to which the intern will be exposed include legal documents environmental studies maps financial records and other historical references. The digital records must be optimized which means that metadata must be embedded into them naming conventions must be applied and they must be reconciled with the inventory matrix. Other records exist in paper format and need to be scanned. The intern will scan paper documents and carefully curate digital content. No experience in records management is required. Training on software applications editing tools and technical equipment will be provided. These records are confidential and must remain on city premises; therefore this position is in-person and remote work is not available. Candidates who wish to apply for the internship must submit their resumes for review. Furthermore those selected will have the opportunity to tour the worksite as part of the evaluation process before any hiring decisions or commitments are made regarding the position. This internship is designed to be accommodating and its scope of work is straightforward making it an ideal opportunity for students seeking a manageable commitment that fits seamlessly into their academic schedules. Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week. Monday to Friday. A minimum of 8 hours per week and no less than 4 hours per day. Schedule is flexible/negotiable and available upon demonstrating satisfactory nonsupervisory performance. Location: This internship is with the City of Portland. The location is at the Portland Building and the address is 1120 SW 5th Ave Portland OR 97204. The Portland Building is easily accessible by public transportation. Note: Student may not earn more than $2000 total in this position which equates to 118 hours worked between Fall and Spring semester.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have Federal Work Study fund in Financial Aid Package (contact with questions). Be able to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrate organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
Open to all majors. Records management serves as the foundation for careers in technology law real estate library sciences education business and government.
